Description
What We’re Building
Honeycomb defined the concept of observability and is raising expectations of what our developer tools can do! Now we are spreading these higher expectations to include front end development. Honeycomb is the observability platform that enables engineering teams to find and solve problems they couldn't before. Honeycomb enables engineers to answer novel questions about their ever-evolving cloud applications, so they can deploy confidently, resolve incidents faster and focus on high-value work that drives innovation. We’re working with well known companies like HelloFresh, Slack, LaunchDarkly, and Vanguard and more across a range of industries. This is an exciting time in our trajectory, we’ve closed Series D funding, scaled past the 200-person mark, and were named to Forbes’ America’s Best Startups of 2022 and 2023!

Join a small Developer Relations team, in a company full of developers and relations advocates. You’ll be the face of Honeycomb to the web (and then mobile) application communities, as we expand modern observability to include the client-facing parts of our software systems. You are a web developer, an active member of this community; experience in Developer Relations is optional.

Who We Are
We come for the impact, and stay for the culture! We’re a talented, opinionated, passionate, fiercely inclusive, and responsible group of bees. We have conviction and we strive to live our values every day. We want our people to do what they truly love amongst a team of highly talented (but humble) peers.

How We Work
We are a remote-first company, which means we believe it is not where you sit, but how you deliver that matters most. We invest in our people and care about how you orient to our culture and processes. At the same time we imbue a lot of trust, autonomy, and accountability from Day 1.

What you'll do in the role

  • Bring meaningful observability to web (and then mobile) application developers.
  • Bring your own experience, plus ideas from others, back to influence our product
  • Create blogs, articles, and videos about why & how to implement great observability in a web app
  • Present at conferences and other events, up to 1x/month
  • Help our marketers and salespeople speak compellingly to frontend developers
  • Embed in the development team for Honeycomb Frontend Observability
  • Influence product direction and design decisions

  • Contribute to open source libraries and documentation
  • Participate in communities around web and mobile development with OpenTelemetry
  • Join some working groups
  • Help organize some meetups
  • Hold office hours, where anyone can sign up to get your help with implementation problems

What You'll Bring

  • You are willing to learn additional frameworks as needed
  • You’ve worked in a web app maintained by multiple people or teams

  • You’ve spoken at a few meetups or conferences
  • You know people who know about many aspects of frontend development
  • Frustration with the current state of frontend monitoring/diagnostics/observability/RUM
  • You’ve felt pain while debugging behavior and performance of your web application
  • You’re done trying to make everything simple, and ready to work skillfully in complexity
  • Talent for conveying complicated concepts clearly
  • You like to teach people how to code in a new library or tool, while avoiding its gotchas
  • You can concisely explain why and how to do a thing, with concrete examples
  • You’ve written blogs or articles that people find helpful
  • You like presenting, and can construct a flow of information that people can follow.

  • You exist on social media, or don’t mind creating those accounts.
  • You love helping people.
  • Ability to work alone, with a preference for working together
  • You can pair some of the time, and work independently other times
  • You keep up with the team, but you’re not on Slack all day long
  • You can work in ambiguity, while nudging the team toward clarity: you ask questions
  • Satisfaction in learning
  • You’ll jump into a new language or framework or whatever is needed, and figure it out
  • You don’t stay wrong: you eagerly update your understanding when new information arrives

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We prioritize job seekers as our customers, unlike bigger job sites, by charging a small fee to provide them with curated access to the best companies and up-to-date jobs. This focus allows us to deliver a more personalized and effective job search experience.
  • Salaries for the engineering jobs on our site range from $100K-$200K. On average, senior engineer positions on our EchoJobs are about $160K.
  • The EchoJobs positions have been sourced and vetted from the top companies to work for in the US as a software engineer, including LinkedIn and other reputable job sites. We also have syndicated jobs from companies that have just raised funding, as well as those that have great unique products and culture. From all of these sources, our founder, Morgan, has also resourced the company's authenticity in terms of their website, public appearance, and more.
  • Yes, our users asked us for just this, so now our search filters allow you to search for your top jobs via location, as well as by onsite, remote, or both. Approximately 30% of our jobs are remote, so you’ve got the best options for you!
  • We have not yet implemented this option, but are considering doing so in the future. For the moment, you would need to cancel your subscription, and resubscribe when you wanted to come back.
  • We add new jobs to EchoJobs every day! We scan our sources for the newest jobs, verify them, and post them to EchoJobs within minutes. We add about 2,000-3,000 new jobs for you each day!
  • From starting your job search to getting hired, the entire job search process can take us software engineers anywhere between 3-6 months. However, at EchoJobs, we’re striving to shorten this duration by finding the best, newest jobs for you, so you can do less job searching, and more applying.
  • We’d recommend checking EchoJobs daily, as we add new jobs to the site each day. Additionally, if you got a chance to read our previous email on “what makes EchoJobs different from any other job search tools,” we also recommended that you set a job alert based on your job filters, so if you get emails on those new jobs, you could be checking more than once per day.
  • If you decide to continue with us after the 1-month trial, we definitely recommend this, as we all know it usually takes 3-6 months to find a quality job as a software engineer these days. So to best support you, we just adjusted our membership options at EchoJobs to monthly, 3 months, or 12 months (this option is more for passive job seekers looking a little bit for the future if they want to come back to work or make a job switch potentially. This lets you see what’s out there in case an even better fit job becomes available.)
  • EchoJobs is truly the only job site of its kind. We want to be THE spot for you to find the best job for you, and haven’t encountered any other company doing this. Other job sites are in niches besides software engineering or focus on a small portion of engineering jobs (like a specific coding language). In the words of Morgan, our founder, “I think what makes EchoJobs different is the amount of jobs, frequency that we add new jobs (we add 2,000-3,000 new jobs daily!), and the powerful search engines to find exactly the job you want more easily and efficiently. We can provide you with the most jobs that are vetted by us, we’ll continually find more new jobs for you, and we make it easier for you to apply and get hired.
