Role Summary:
We are seeking an accomplished and strategic Engineering Lead, Backend (Python) to own the technical roadmap, architectural design, and quality assurance of our most critical, robust, and high-performance backend systems. You will play a defining role in setting the architectural direction for our core microservices, leading a dynamic feature team, and driving significant digital transformations in the HR Tech space. This role demands proven technical leadership, strategic ownership of product delivery, and the ability to mentor and elevate the engineering capabilities of the team.
Success in this role is measured by the resilience, performance (latency/throughput), and operational cost-efficiency of the platform, directly enabling our expansion in the HR Tech domain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architectural Vision & Ownership: Own the end-to-end technical roadmap for core backend services, translating long-term business objectives into a resilient, future-proof architectural vision. Define, design, and lead the implementation of scalable, resilient, and fault-tolerant APIs using Python, ensuring long-term technical health.
- Team & Technical Mentorship: Serve as the primary technical leader and mentor. Drive measurable improvements in team velocity and code quality by establishing clear engineering standards, conducting rigorous code and design reviews, and actively mentoring mid-level engineers toward senior competencies.
- System Strategy & Integration: Own the integration strategy for microservices, sophisticated RESTful and GraphQL APIs, and critical third-party enterprise tools, managing complexity, dependencies, and data flow across the platform.
- Performance, Scalability, & FinOps Ownership: Proactively identify performance bottlenecks and lead the effort to troubleshoot, debug, and optimize existing systems for maximum speed, scalability, and cost-efficiency in high-traffic production environments. A strong understanding of cloud cost management (FinOps principles) is required.
- Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a key technical liaison, collaborating strategically with Product Managers, DevOps Engineers, QA, and Frontend Leads to define requirements, manage technical debt, and ensure seamless, high-quality, end-to-end product delivery.
- Process & Technology Roadmapping: Drive continuous improvement in our development processes. Systematically identify, justify (via ROI/cost analysis), and lead the adoption of new technologies and methodologies (e.g., event streaming, new microservice patterns) that directly enhance product capability and improve developer experience.
Required Technical Expertise:
We are looking for mastery, hands-on experience, and a strategic understanding of the following areas:
- Core Proficiency: Mastery of Python 3.x is essential, with an emphasis on advanced data structures, concurrency, and performance tuning.
- Frameworks: Extensive and deep experience with modern Python web frameworks (Django, Flask, or FastAPI), including internal workings and optimization strategies. Must demonstrate experience re-architecting or scaling a critical system built on one of these frameworks.
- API Design: Expertise in designing, developing, documenting, and evolving robust, versioned RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs.
- Databases: Proficient in managing and optimizing both SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis) databases. Expert command of ORM frameworks (Django ORM, SQLAlchemy) and advanced query optimization.
- Asynchronous Processing: Deep, hands-on experience designing and managing systems with message brokers and task queues (Celery, Redis, RabbitMQ) for distributed and asynchronous processing.
- DevOps & Cloud: Expert experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes). Proven ability to design and implement robust CI/CD pipelines and a strong track record of deploying and managing high-scale applications on major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).
- Testing: Expertise in setting up, maintaining, and automating comprehensive testing frameworks (Unit, Integration, E2E/Contract Testing) as part of a CI/CD gated pipeline.
- Methodology: Expertise with Git and leading Agile development methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related quantitative field.
