About the Role:

We are seeking a motivated Applied Scientist Intern with a background in psychology and artificial intelligence to help enhance the psychological and emotional intelligence of our healthcare-focused LLM. This role involves research, experimentation, and collaboration to improve the safety, empathy, and human-centric capabilities of our models.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including AI researchers, clinicians, and product teams, to design and refine solutions that address the behavioral and cognitive aspects of healthcare delivery.Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct research on incorporating psychological principles into AI, focusing on empathy, contextual awareness, and communication.

• Develop and test reinforcement learning techniques to improve the AI’s emotional intelligence and patient interaction capabilities.

• Collaborate with product teams to align LLM outputs with behavioral health workflows and healthcare best practices.

• Assist in creating evaluation frameworks for the model’s psychological safety and effectiveness in behavioral health scenarios.

• Experiment with integrating behavioral insights into AI responses for improved patient engagement and satisfaction.

• Analyze feedback from healthcare professionals to identify areas of improvement in model behavior and output.

Qualifications:

• Education: Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master’s or Ph.D. in Psychology, Cognitive Science, AI, or a related field.

• AI Knowledge: Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP), reinforcement learning, and fine-tuning large language models.

• Psychology Expertise: Strong understanding of human behavior, health literacy, and psychological safety principles.

• Technical Skills: Experience with Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or other AI/ML frameworks.

• Research Focus: Proven ability to conduct research and present findings in clear, actionable ways.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working on projects that bridge psychology and AI, such as conversational agents or behavioral health tools.

• Familiarity with healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7).

• Start-up or fast-paced research environment experience.
