HW Lifecycle Mechanical Engineer

Location: Calgary, AB, CA

Overview

Hexagon’s Autonomous Solutions division is looking for a Hardware Lifecycle (Sustaining) Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Calgary, AB. Reporting to the Team Lead HW Lifecycle, this role will work within the NovAtel Hardware Engineering team managing hardware maintenance (sustaining) issues, conducting root cause analysis, developing solutions, performing hands-on testing, generating test reports, conducting peer reviews, and providing lessons learned for new designs. This is an exciting opportunity to gain diverse experience learning innovative NovAtel products and processes.

Responsibilities

As a Hardware Lifecycle (Sustaining) Mechanical Engineer you will be responsible for these activities:

  • Technical coordination of product lifecycle issues and resolution.
  • Development of mechanical solutions adhering to IATF 16949 processes.
  • Hands-on solution development, including hardware design, test plan creation, test execution, test reporting, documentation updates, and final implementation.
  • Create or modify data sets, including bills of materials and assembly drawings.
  • Create Engineering Change Orders and conduct Root Cause Analysis when required.
  • Engage subject matter experts as needed and support Project Managers.
  • Provide lessons learned to the development team and work with the repair team to understand customer returns.

Qualifications

Must Have:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Expertise in injection molded plastics, machined components, sheet metal, and sealing strategies.
  • Strong 3D modeling skills, preferably using Creo.
  • Experience with DFMA and GD&T and familiarity with standards such as MIL-SPEC, IEC, and ISO.
  • Understanding of and experience conducting Root Cause Analysis.
  • Ability to work with hand tools and proficiency with PCs, operating systems, and software packages.
  • Strong collaboration, negotiation, and persuasion skills.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
