Description
The Propulsion team at Hermeus is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Power Electronics Electrical Engineer. In this role you will be responsible for cradle to grave ownership of the electrical power architecture and components for all new vehicle development at Hermeus in addition to mentoring junior engineers and establishing standards and tools that level up the whole team. 
 
This role will be embedded in the propulsion team where you will be working with a cross functional team of electrical and mechanical engineers to architect the power system to provide electrical, fluid and mechanical power to critical vehicle components for supersonic and hypersonic aircraft, with the ultimate goal of enabling hypersonic commercial transport. The ideal candidate will be able to act as the bridge between mechanical and electrical disciplines. 
 
In this role you will be responsible for the design of flight hardware in addition to all necessary ground and test equipment. In addition to working on custom designs you will also be responsible for working with vendors to identify commercial off the shelf and custom solutions. Finally, you will be hands on hardware and support the build and test of multiple prototype vehicles as we continually push Hermeus’ capabilities forward. We emphasize a fast paced and iterative build and test environment. If you are looking to broaden your experience and get to try out novel solutions to difficult problems this is the job for you. 

Requirements

  • BS Electrical Engineering or Mechanical/Aerospace with significant industry experience working with development of electrical component & systems  
  • 5+ years of experience in multiple of the following areas: Battery design, motor controller design, harness design and fabrication, design for high EMI environments and appropriate mitigations, power conditioning, communication hubs/busses, bus converters, and PCB layout 
  • Demonstrated project experience designing high power (>5kw) electronic components and or distributed systems  
  • Strong analysis and troubleshooting skills 
  • Willing to get your hands dirty and turn wrenches (or wield a soldering iron if that is more your speed) 

Desired Multipliers

  • MS Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or similar 
  • Experience working with high voltage DC systems & Components (Batteries, Motors, Generators, etc.) 
  • Hands on experience working with HV systems and appropriate safety precautions and procedure 
  • Working knowledge of aerospace systems engineering practices (e.g. requirements development, verification and validation methodologies, component qualification/acceptance testing, diagramming and modelling techniques, risk management) 
  • Experience running hardware test and certification campaigns  
  • Experience with the following software systems or languages: Python, Capital Harness, Siemen’s NX/Teamcenter, Altium Designer 
  • Experience with simulation and test tools (Fluke process meter, Ammeter, Simulink, Ansys, etc.) 
  • Familiarity with industry standard practices (e.g. IPC-620, MIL-STD-810,MIL-STD-704,MIL-HDBK-516C, MIL-STD-464D, DO-160G) 
  • Experience with avionics devices and protocols (CAN bus, RS-422, ARINC 825, D38999 style connectors, etc.) 
  • Strong ability to bridge between mechanical and electrical engineering domains. 
  • Engineering project team experience
