Operational Technology Lead Engineer 

We are looking for an Operational Technology Lead Engineer to join Heidelberg Materials Digital Hub Varna.

About the role: 

You’ll be part of a dedicated group of a few chosen people given an extraordinary task to look closely at our Operational Technology stream, collaborate with business units, and enable business for a new era of digitalization! 

As a key player in our Digital Hub Varna, you’ll provide OT development & support skills for Heidelberg Materials’ global Engineering team. Your role as an OT Lead Engineer will involve leveraging your cross-technology expertise to analyze business requirements and assess their technical feasibility. You’ll focus on designing, creating, and ensuring the functionality of our OT products in alignment with business strategic targets, working closely with the Product team to provide a holistic approach to our Operation Technology product portfolio. 

Your next challenge: 

• Define, develop, and maintain IT/OT reference architectures for enterprise OT services 

• Create and maintain technical standards, blueprints, and guidelines used by external and internal system integrators during deployments at our plants 

• Develop comprehensive design documentation, including high-level and low-level designs 

• Innovate and implement OT technologies and solutions following our engineering process and Demand-to-Retire Framework 

• Translate business and operational requirements into technologies and solutions that are reliable, scalable, automated, secure, and cost-efficient 

• Collaborate with Operational and Deployment teams to ensure solutions are operable and deployable 

• Maintain our solutions' technological health and efficiency through rigorous quality control 

• Engage in strategic corporate projects, targeting the implementation of secure and resilient remote operation and optimization options 

Your profile: 

• 5+ years of experience as a System Engineer or Solution Architect in industrial IT/OT, automation, or OT Cybersecurity 

• Practical experience with Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and SCADA of at least one major vendor 

• Proven experience with OT data engineering on enterprise scale using IoT gateways (e.g., CopaData Zenon Gateway, HMS Red Lion Gateways, Siemens Edge, etc.) 

• Strong knowledge of industrial networking, network segmentation, and OT security standards 

• Hands-on experience with Video Surveillance Systems (CCTV), including cameras, NVRs, and at least one of the following VMS Systems: Milestone, Genetec, NX Witness 

• Technical lead and mentor for IT engineers supporting OT environments 

• Ability to communicate effectively with both engineers and executives. Interface with plant managers, in-house competence centers, electrical engineers, and security 

• Familiarity with the safety of machinery or electrical equipment, e.g., IEC 60204
