THE OPPORTUNITY

We are hiring a Data Scientist to our Search & Discovery team in Portugal!

Are you passionate about turning data into meaningful wellness experiences? The Search & Discovery Team at Wellhub is on a mission to help users effortlessly find the wellbeing partners and activities that best match their preferences and needs.
As a Data Scientist on our team, you'll play a key role in shaping how millions of users explore and connect with personalized recommendations, smart search capabilities, and curated suggestions — all within the Wellhub ecosystem. From building intuitive discovery tools to enhancing user journeys, your work will directly impact how people engage with their wellbeing.

YOUR IMPACT

• Lead the design, development and deployment of scalable and reliable machine learning algorithms to enhance the search and recommendation experience for Wellhub users, helping them discover new wellness experiences;
• Own the end-to-end lifecycle of machine learning models, from ideation and prototyping to production deployment and monitoring;
• Ensure high-quality search and recommendation performance by leveraging A/B testing, online metrics, and offline evaluations;
• Drive user behavior studies to understand user preferences, evolving trends, and emerging topics to continuously improve personalization strategies;
• Collaborate closely with engineers and product managers to measure and optimize the business impact of new personalization algorithms;
• Partner with cross-functional teams to define and execute strategies that enhance user engagement and satisfaction;
• Present technical findings internally to educate Wellhubbers and externally to inspire and recruit top talent in data science and machine learning;

WHO YOU ARE

• A collaborative team player with over 2 years of hands-on experience as a data scientist, machine learning engineer, or software engineer developing production-grade machine learning models making business impact;
• An analytical thinker with a deep understanding of machine learning fundamentals, specially within the context of recommendation systems and/or personalized search ranking domain, who enjoys transforming complex challenges into innovative, real-world engineering solutions;
• A lifelong learner passionate about emerging technologies, with proficiency in Python and SQL;
• A pragmatic problem solver, experienced in leveraging large-scale data processing frameworks (e.g. Spark), adept at breaking down problems, documenting challenges, and estimating project efforts;
• An effective communicator with excellent written and oral skills, comfortable presenting technical insights to diverse teams and stakeholders in English;
• A well-rounded professional whose academic background in Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science, or related fields complements their practical expertise and eagerness to embrace new challenges.
