The Procurement and Strategic Sourcing function, reporting into the Business Technology organization, is seeking leadership to work across teams for our ongoing transformation efforts.  We are investing in maturing our capabilities, processes, policies and technology in order to elevate our services, provide greater strategic value to the organization, and operate more efficiently. This focus is imperative to improve the overall 360 experience of all stakeholders including the executive leadership, the Procurement team, business requestors, and suppliers.

We are looking for an experienced procurement leader to partner with the Director of Procurement and the newly formed category and supplier management team. Together, they will establish and operationalize a category management capability beginning with the “Top 20” partners.  Additionally, they will guide the team of seasoned sourcing professionals to build standard processes for managing key suppliers, as well as developing a methodology for forecasting technology contract demand, capacity planning and workload balancing within our key categories.

This individual will play an instrumental role in delivering priority transformation projects across process, technology and talent investments.  Initiatives will span various sizes, scales and complexity with stakeholders of all levels across the organization.  The role reports directly to the Vice President leading the function.

Candidates should be located in the US either near a Guidewire office or hybrid remote, and are expected to travel to San Mateo, California monthly to interact in person with the team, department and key Executive stakeholders.  Occasionally there will be priority events, and meetings at HQ, other GWRE offices that require in-person presence.

What You'll Do

  • Develop category management and supplier management capabilities with focus on the Technology Category
  • Develop a category management framework for the team with industry best practices
  • Build a supplier management strategy and approach utilizing best practices
  • Implement supplier performance assessment programs that track trends and identify areas for improvement  Summarize annual supplier insights and recommendations based on analysis, research, industry trends, benchmarking, history, go forward relationship plans and best practices Create and manage the an annual QBR calendar and meeting schedule with renewal strategy and timing consideration for Top 20 suppliers
  • Develop QBR framework for category and supplier management operations  
  • Provide guidance to newly formed Category Teams with focus on Technology 
  • Assist in the development of category strategies, plans and benchmarks that align to company objectives and maximize category spend and value, including ESG targets, beginning with the technology category
  • Operationalize, manage and measure progress to plans against quarterly targets.
  • Provide guidance in the development of supplier relationship plans and the measurement of their progress
  • Assist the team in defining negotiations approaches that ensure favorable terms for the organization
  • Provide and train team on procurement tools and methodologies such as templates, playbooks, and workload management tools to optimize effectiveness and efficiency
  • Serve as the overall Procurement Business Process Architect
  • Lead projects that align processes, data and technology to procurement strategy to achieve future state capabilities and related outcomes (i.e Intake to Pay, Supplier Onboarding)Evaluate standard procurement operating procedures and present potential improvement strategies to senior management for review and, ultimately, approval.
  • Work with upstream/downstream functions to incorporate requirements into solutions and plans (BizTech, Finance, Security/GRC, ESG etc.)Review and revise policies and processes semi-annually to balance risk with control
  • Continue to assess current landscape and documentation to identify opportunities for improved operations and business outcomes
  • Keep Business Stakeholders Engaged & Informed in partnership with PSS leaders   
  • Work with leadership, stakeholders, and Procurement team to communicate and train to the new capabilities
  • Operationalize and implement business engagement model with team and stakeholders
  • Establish metrics to measure and communicate the success of the strategic capabilities to Guidewire
  • Provide negotiations deal strategy thought leadership, useful benchmarks and regular status communications for large spend eventsKeep leadership team informed of the latest trends, tools, and research

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree and relevant field experience. 5-10 years in procurement roles; 3 yrs in a technology or software firm, procurement and/or project management certification is desirable
  • Tools: Coupa, Oracle, Google Workspace, Zip, and Zylo preferred
