We're looking for a Lead Engineer to work on the Groupon platform to improve performance and make our customers’ and small business’ lives easier and happier. We work in small, self-managing, collaborative and agile teams to implement stuff quickly.

You’ll spend time on the following:

• You will lead the design and implementation of systems within the enterprise
• You will work closely with other engineers within your group and across the product and engineering organization to identify problems and build effective technical solutions
• Designing customer facing applications using front-end and back-end technologies in AWS and GCP cloud infrastructure. You will review and monitor current engineering work, as well as previously constructed applications, to ensure the software is running as smoothly as possible.
• Migrate applications running in AWS to GCP. Develop Data Pipelines.
• Design and develop solutions independently using modern architectural approaches based on event driven architecture and microservices.
• Design and build appropriate observability (monitoring, tracking, logging, alerting) solutions from an operational excellence standpoint.
• Directly contribute to the business stories as well as tech debt/engineering initiatives to the product backlog.
• Drive technical initiatives/innovation across engineering teams with a focus on increasing Groupon site performance and stability. 
• Perform POCs and provide the guidance to the teams with the pros and cons derived from the POC outcomes.
• Work directly with our internal product teams to ensure that our technology infrastructure is seamlessly and effectively integrated with our third-party software, conceive, and build the necessary applications to make this happen.
• Work with international teams for global standards, accomplish engineering and organization missions by accomplishing OKRs as needed.
• Mentor team members and encourage your peers to do the best possible work
• Advocate for and improve upon our tech culture principles

We’re excited about you if you have:

• At least 15+ years experience in software development
• Excellent coding skills in one or more languages: Java, C#, Scala, C++, Python or Ruby
• Deep knowledge of web technologies Frontend technologies like Node JS/Vue JS/ Backbone JS/Express JS/Angular JS/ React JS/React 
• Development experience with service-oriented architectures/microservices
• Expertise in building scalable server applications and reusable modules in the  Node eco-system
  Experience with Docker desired
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Experience coaching, mentoring and developing staff including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities.
• Track record of building and shipping new customer and merchant experiences.
• Good understanding of Agile methodologies and Project Management techniques.
• Passion for leading teams and setting the vision.
• Great articulation skills and stakeholder management experience.
• An interest in understanding the “why,” and a desire to pull the thread to understand how things work.
