Job Description

The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a key role in designing and developing new products, ensuring cost-efficiency and adherence to standards. They will create detailed circuit designs, software code, and guide projects from conceptualization through prototyping and testing. The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead small projects, manage timelines, address challenges, and coordinate team efforts. With a strong focus on understanding market trends and customer needs, this individual will identify new product opportunities and propose innovative solutions. The Senior Electrical Engineer will also provide technical support, troubleshoot issues, and stay current on emerging technologies.
 

What You Will Do at Graco

Product Development and Engineering Tasks

  • Perform electrical hardware and software engineering tasks in developing new products and cost reduction.

  • Participate in the development of Product Specification.

  • Produce conceptual designs and guide the development process to create practical designs.

  • Create detailed circuit and hardware drawings and software code.

  • Identify applicable standards and provide analysis of the design to these standards.

  • Use engineering analysis tools and techniques (e.g., Circuit simulation, software analysis tools).

  • Review instruction manuals and product literature.

  • Define and lead prototype development, lab, and field tests.

  • Work with manufacturing on process development.

Project Leadership and Management

  • Lead small new product development projects as required.

  • Complete project feasibility and Pre-Production authorizations.

  • Create and maintain project schedules.

  • Manage projects to meet schedules, including:

    • Working with team members to ensure all development steps are completed satisfactorily.

    • Identifying and communicating threats to schedules to appropriate management.

  • Participate in release-for-sale activities.

  • Provide periodic oral and written reports of project status.

  • Work effectively in a team environment.

Customer-Focused Innovation and Product Support

  • Participate in identifying new product opportunities for Graco by:

    • Recognizing customer product needs.

    • Evaluating Graco and competitive products.

    • Proposing and developing the right technology to meet customer needs.

  • Direct and perform standard product support activities such as:

    • Analyzing and writing Engineering Change Orders.

    • Troubleshooting product problems in manufacturing, lab, or customer sites.

    • Initiating corrective action activities.

Continuous Learning and Market Insight

  • Learn, participate in development, and apply knowledge of:

    • Developments in the technical field to maintain technical knowledge.

    • Graco product line, operational systems, and design standards.

    • Graco Quality Management System and customer applications.

    • Emerging trends in customers' markets.

  • Stay up to date on industry trends and Graco's evolving product lines.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Will Bring to Graco

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer or software engineering or computer science or equivalent field.

  • 5+ years of experience in new product development with demonstrated repeated success producing innovative and successful products.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent engineering/technical aptitude.

  • Strong mentorship and training skills.

  • Strong project management skills.

POWER ELECTRICS ENGINEER (EMD)

Job Purpose

Electric Torque Machines (ETM) is a high energy team developing and commercializing high-performance electric motors and power electronics. We are seeking an experienced Senior Power Electronics Engineer who is enthusiastic about applying their exceptional skills to make an impact in the motor industry. This engineer plays a critical role in our team to help us continue to stay ahead of the curve, offering proprietary motor solutions drastically different than the incumbents we are replacing.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop synchronous motor drives from 20W to 50kW including both leading ETM internal design activities and working directly with outside drive companies.

• Analyze and solve problems pertaining to field reliability, DV test and manufacturing of motor drives for ETM’s unique motors.

• Perform electrical system performance analysis and trade-off studies.

• This role will involve a mix of time driving both new design and integration of 3rd party designs.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on development of industrial power electronics such as power supplies, AC-DC, DC-DC converters, and 3-phase PWM motor drive circuits from DC to 600VAC.

• Demonstrated development experience including conceptual block diagrams, schematic simulation, and capture, component selection, PCBA design, manufacturing and DV test.

• Experience with design requirements for regulatory agency compliance (UL, CSA, CE).

• BSEE is required, MSEE is preferred.

• Working knowledge of microcontroller embedded software.

• Strong communication and organizational skills to successfully partner with ETM internal and external teams.

• The following qualifications are preferred: o Familiarity with motor drive test equipment and test methods.

o Understanding of thermal design and thermal management systems.

o Proven history of commercialized motor drives used in commercial or industrial environments with medium to high unit volumes.

o Knowledge of EMI related design issues and appropriate US/CE Federal regulations
