JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW
Focus on the high-profile Retail and Services Point of Sale (POS) solutions and our latest product offerings as a part of teams that work quickly and enthusiastically to ship product on aggressive deadlines. We are looking for someone who can hit the ground running and make contributions immediately. This role requires a multidisciplinary approach encompassing the following:
User-Centered Design: You create solutions that prioritize user needs, conducting research to understand user behavior, preferences, and behaviors of the end user throughout every phase of product development. Ensuring products are intuitive, efficient, and enjoyable to use is a top priority.
Data-Driven Researcher: From user testing to qualitative analysis, you are innately curious and use that to assist with collecting disparate sources of information and delivering actionable insights.
Visual Designer: You create clean and balanced designs, maintaining consistent patterns that fall within and contribute to brand identity and design systems on every project.
Interaction Designer: From understanding user needs to creating sketches and prototypes, you link UX research and visual design.
Thoughtful Collaborator: Considered by peers as a strong thought partner, you brainstorm constructively with others and know how to solve tough problems by collaborating closely with product managers, developers, and other stakeholders to align on objectives, ensure technical feasibility, and balance user and business goals throughout the design process.
Team Player: You check your ego at the door and don’t take yourself too seriously. Instead, you bring an entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to take on a variety of roles to get things done. You value building strong relationships with cross-functional teams, influencing stakeholders to align on a shared vision and priorities. RESPONSIBILITIES
User Research
Understand the user experience as a whole and use it to appropriately inform design decisions
Perform competitive analyses to ensure alignment with the current product market and define existing user pain points
Help conduct and define UX research, persona creation, user interviews, and usability testing scenarios
Interpret complex data into defined user problems, suggested user journeys, and prescribed UI designs to support the best user experiences
Consolidate findings in an organized deck and present to stakeholders alongside design recommendations
Product Design
As an acute designer, produce new product experiences and improvements:
Define the product’s look and feel based on persona needs and business goals
Create, updating, and implementing thoughtful UI/UX concepts, wireframes, high fidelity comps, and clickable prototypes for multiple viewports and touchpoints
Design layouts and interaction patterns that achieve consistency within a larger suite of products
Effectively communicate visual design choices, UX interactions, and product specifications while also negotiating options with technical, product, and management teams
Understand what types of user experiences are made possible with current technology
Collaborate with Product teams to ensure designs are implemented by Development teams as intended and the integrity of the experience is maintained in the final output according to design standards, brand expectations, and defined user needs
Work with existing and forthcoming corporate brand and design systems standards
Advocate for design thinking to build more customer-centric products that drive revenue
Execute alongside a fast-paced, ever-evolving roadmap
Experience Design
Strategically curate a cohesive product experience to exceed user expectations:
Partner with the broader Product Communication team to develop marketing collateral, sales materials, and support documentation that aligns with targeted personas
Act as a go-to resource for product experience best practices and design standard adherence
Understand and evaluate usability heuristics within a product experience
Must Haves:
Clean visual design sense that can adhere to brand standards and design conventions
Acute attention to detail
Experience or strong interest in POS solutions and fintech products
Strong creative, strategic, and analytical skills honed to ask questions, solve problems, and crave feedback and growth opportunities in the spirit of continuous improvement
Solid time management skills to independently manage iterative deadlines, shift between projects, and adhere to varied sprint schedules and cadences
Desire to seek out and leverage constructive feedback to continuously elevate your work
Confidence preparing, presenting, and defending work to audiences of various sizes, including by phone, in writing, and face to face
Proficiency with design, prototyping, and testing tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Google Workspace, etc.)
Bonus Attributes:
Knowledge of WCAG and desire to exceed accessibility standards
Experience working in a virtual environment
Understanding of design systems and experience maintaining them
Familiarity with JIRA and agile methodology
Experience localizing product for new verticals and/or international markets
Adept with HTML, CSS, Javascript, and other web technologies
This role requires a high degree of flexibility, critical thinking, and creative problem solving. It’s best suited for individuals who are passionate about influencing new industry trends and translating that information into compelling products centered on usability and scalability.
We collectively believe pretty is not enough and support the broader team effort to ship product that is solid from architecture to interface. The Product Designer will work in close collaboration with product management, development, corporate product design, and clients and is directly managed by the Director of Product Experience.
