OVERVIEW

The Senior Electrical & Controls Capital Senior Engineer is responsible for providing technical and project engineering leadership in support of corporate-led capital projects, with primary accountability for electrical, controls, and automation scope. This position supports primarily North America manufacturing platforms and regions and partners closely with project managers, plant teams, and external engineering resources to deliver safe, reliable, and maintainable solutions. This is a remote eligible role.

This role plays a key part in translating business and operational needs into practical electrical and controls solutions, driving technical decision-making, and maintaining continuity across multiple active capital initiatives. The position requires strong technical capability, sound project judgment, and the ability to coordinate effectively across internal stakeholders and external partners to support safe and successful project delivery.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide project management leadership on capital project installations with business teams and key stakeholders including scope definition, budget development, resource selection/management, and schedule management.
  • Provide Electrical & Controls technical leadership throughout the project life cycle including equipment/component selection and design, installation and commissioning support, startup readiness, and system performance improvement.
  • Lead or support electrical and controls scope development, design review, and execution support for capital projects across multiple sites and business initiatives.
  • Partner with project managers to define scope, identify risks, develop execution strategies, and support delivery against project objectives, timelines, and budgets.
  • Serve as a key technical resource for electrical, controls, and automation decisions on assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with project teams, matrix engineers, plant engineering, operations, maintenance, IT, and internal/external technical resources to assess opportunities for application of innovative designs, performance improvements, technical advantages, speed to market, and capital efficiencies, ensuring optimum business value is achieved during capital project activity.
  • Review and coordinate design work completed by external engineering firms, programming partners, system integrators, OEMs, and contractors.
  • Ensure technical solutions align with plant standards, corporate standards, safety requirements, operational needs, and long-term maintainability.
  • Support development and implementation of electrical distribution, motor control, instrumentation, controls architecture, network considerations, equipment integration, and startup strategies.
  • Coordinate with plant operations, maintenance, engineering, IT, and project stakeholders to align tie points, shutdown planning, startup readiness, and handoff requirements.
  • Support resolution of technical issues during project execution and startup to protect schedule, quality, and operational readiness.
  • Assist with contractor and vendor coordination, including technical reviews, submittals, FAT/SAT planning, field issue resolution, and commissioning support.
  • Contribute to estimate development, scope clarification, technical bid review, and assessment of external support needs.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation and capture lessons learned for future projects.
  • Requires travel, including some extended time possibilities over weekends and holidays. Travel is variable ranging from 25% to 100% during project execution and start-up, with an overall average of approximately 50%.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related degree with applicable experience or extensive relevant work experience.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to travel 50%
  • Experience in plant operations and industrial environments understanding equipment design and impacts to materials, labor, and work processes.
  • Strong technical leadership skills in a collaborative fashion.
  • Self-motivator with proven ability to energize working teams.
  • Capable analytical problem solver through the use of data and keen judgment.
  • Demonstrated performance in executing concurrent assignments.
  • Adaptability to maneuver through uncertainty with a high degree of professionalism and candor.
  • Project Engineering experience including scope definition, cost estimation and tracking, EAC estimation, and scope management.
  • Experience supporting technical execution for capital projects from scope development through startup and closeout.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, controls systems, instrumentation, and automation integration.
  • Ability to work effectively across technical, operational, and project-management teams.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minneapolis Preferred, Remote Eligible
  • Electrical & Controls Engineering experience; troubleshooting and performance improvement.
  • Experience working with external engineering firms, system integrators, OEMs, and contractors.
  • Platform experience in one or more of the primary General Mills manufacturing process applications.
  • Understanding of Food Manufacturing Regulatory Requirements (GMPs, Food Safety, sanitation practices, and design criteria).
  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement and Vertical Start-up tools and processes.
  • Experience with capital project delivery, commissioning, startup planning, outage coordination, and operational handoff.
  • Experience reviewing drawings, control narratives, functional descriptions, startup plans, and contractor deliverables.
  • Experience coordinating technical work across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Fluency or strong proficiency in a foreign language.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • International relocation or international remote working arrangements outside of the US will not be considered.

SALARY RANGE

The salary range for this position is:

$110,800 - $166,300 Annual
