GeneDx is seeking an experienced Data Center Infrastructure Senior Manager to lead the design, development, and operation of our on-premise infrastructure to support our genetic testing business. This role will be pivotal in overseeing the architecture, deployment, and ongoing management of a new state-of-the-art data center, ensuring the highest levels of performance, scalability, and security.

In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of infrastructure engineers in the design, implementation, and management of our server, storage, and networking environments. You will work closely with senior leaders across engineering and IT to ensure that our infrastructure aligns with the company’s growth and performance objectives. This role will be critical in establishing a resilient, scalable infrastructure that supports our mission-critical applications and services.

As a Senior Manager, you will oversee all aspects of infrastructure planning, from the ground-up build of a new data center to the ongoing optimization of systems, ensuring efficient resource management, high availability, and robust disaster recovery plans. You will drive the technical roadmap for the infrastructure team and will be responsible for ensuring that best practices are followed across all aspects of infrastructure design and operations.

Experience, Traits, and Skills

  • Proven success in leading on-premise infrastructure teams, with experience in data center build-outs and operations.
  • Strong technical expertise in server, storage, and network architectures, with an emphasis on high availability, scalability, and security.
  • Extensive knowledge of physical data center environments, including power, cooling, and space management.
  • Experience with enterprise-level server hardware, SAN/NAS storage solutions, and network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, routing, switching).
  • Ability to lead large-scale projects, including data center build-out, server refresh cycles, and network upgrades.
  • Strong background in developing and managing disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity strategies for on-prem environments.
  • Ability to mentor and guide senior engineers, fostering growth and development in technical and leadership capacities.
  • Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of related experience. At least 2 years of management or senior leadership experience.
  • Based in the Gaithersburg, MD area. The position is hybrid with an expectation of being in the GeneDx Gaithersburg lab three days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, architecture, and build-out of a new on-premise data center, ensuring it meets business needs for performance, scalability, and redundancy.
  • Oversee all aspects of infrastructure management, including server hardware, storage systems, and networking equipment.
  • Develop a strategic roadmap for infrastructure projects, balancing operational needs with future scalability requirements.
  • Ensure the high availability of critical infrastructure through effective monitoring, redundancy, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless integration between infrastructure, applications, and business needs.
  • Manage the lifecycle of all physical infrastructure, including hardware refresh schedules, capacity planning, and decommissioning of legacy systems.
  • Develop and enforce best practices for infrastructure management, including security protocols, system maintenance, and operational efficiency.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for automation and optimization within the data center environment to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards, including security, environmental, and operational guidelines.
