We are hiring 2 Senior Scala developers (or Java ) (Backend) located in Prague OR Brno preferably, the role is hybrid with some expectation to collaborate in the office with the team and mixed with working from home.

We are interested in talking to back end java developers who are interested in learning scala. Our future projects will be built in java.

About the team

Our team takes care of the in-product messaging platform. In-product messaging is an important business channel at Gen, and we cover the entire toolkit for delivering campaigns to our users and customers—from high-performance backends (connected with the majority of Gen products) to admin UIs for campaign definitions. Our team’s mission is to create the best monetization platform to support company growth.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced developer to work on our high-performance in-product messaging (IPM) backend, which is written in Scala. While knowledge of Scala and functional programming is a plus, we also welcome Java developers who are eager to explore Scala. As part of your role, you will be responsible for developing the IPM backend, writing tests, managing pull requests (PRs), enhancing infrastructure, and collaborating closely with our team.

What You’ll Do in This Role

  • Write Scala code in IPM backend component, improving existing code, refactoring’s…

  • Write unit tests and e2e tests as part of the development process.  

  • Identify bugs and analyze logs to solve production issues.

  • Improve backend performance.

  • Communicate and cooperate with other teammates to find the best solution.

  • Participate in development activities , code-reviews, groomings, team syncs, stand-ups, postmortems, demos, etc.

  • Influence how the team works – participate in retrospectives and other team meetings.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful in This Role 

  • Strong proficiency in JVM technologies (3+ years of experience).

  • Knowledge of Scala or willingness to learn it.

  • Experience with FP  (functional programming) or willingness to learn it.

  • Familiarity with GCP (Google Cloud Platform)  or concepts of using cloud platforms.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with databases (Postgres).

  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools (Git), modern dev tooling, IDEs, etc.

  • Familiarity with continuous integration.

  • Be a team player with great communication skills.

  • Fluency in English to work in our international team.
