GEM Technologies, Inc. (GEM) is seeking a Project Manager to join our team. Successful candidate will be a forward-thinking environmental professional with ability to interact with senior managers and subject matter experts on a variety of technical and programmatic issues. The role requires interpretation of environmental radiological and chemical data and development of optimized recommendations that facilitate site completion and complies with environmental, health and safety regulations and/or company policies.

This position is full-time and will support N3B directly in Los Alamos, NM

  • Lead the planning and execution of environmental remediation efforts. This includes, but is not limited to, development of technical and programmatic strategies, integrated project planning, work scheduling and sequencing, risk analysis and risk management, and general project execution.
  • Work through integrated project teams including the regulatory support organization to identify and implement the appropriate path to achieve regulatory closure of each site.
  • Prepare for and lead project meetings.
  • Provide technical leadership, management, and expertise specifically in the subject matters related to RCRA environmental site characterization and remediation; including waste management.
  • Provide technical leadership, management, and expertise specifically in the subject matters related to decontamination, deactivation, and demolition of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities; including waste management.
  • Develop and manage scopes of work and schedules for self-performed and subcontracted work.
  • Lead and manage development and review of project documents.
  • Coordinate and conduct project Preparedness Reviews for both subcontracted and self-performed activities.
  • Develop and propose DOE and regulatory deliverables.
  • Coordinate, lead and support project meetings with DOE EM-LA, TRIAD, New Mexico Environment Department and stakeholders.
  • Lead environmental project reviews. Identify areas of improvement and implement corrective actions for continuous improvement.
  • Manage quality methodologies and utilize quality tools to help drive continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental or civil engineering, Geology, Geochemistry/Hydrology, or other appropriate related technical discipline with at least 10 years of relevant experience. However, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the position’s duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.
  • Experience in leading integrated project teams and stakeholders to identify and implement the appropriate path to achieve regulatory closure of each site.
  • Experience managing project scope, schedule, costs, and risks; including knowledge and experience in Earned Value Management Systems. Control Account Manager (CAM) experience is a plus.
  • Technical leadership and expertise specifically in the subject matters related to RCRA environmental site characterization and remediation.
  • Excellent writing and planning ability to develop scopes of work, project documents, and schedules for self-performed and subcontracted work.
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills to help lead and facilitate project meetings with EM-LA, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Advanced knowledge, skill and ability to perform critical strategic tasks and to interpret broad strategic and technical requirements and develop and execute plans to satisfy them.
  • Effective interpersonal skills (e.g., ability to lead a team, work as part of a team, communicate effectively, work/interact effectively and amicably with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures and with diverse personal attributes).
  • Excellent communication skills (i.e., ability to present ideas effectively in formal and informal situations and convey thoughts clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing).
  • Strong organizational, time management, attention to detail and analytical skills, with the ability to exercise independent judgment. 
  • To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Due to the federal nature of the work, a U.S. Citizenship is required.

N3B manages the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract for the U.S. Department of Energy Environmental Management’s Los Alamos Field Office, which is responsible for cleaning up contamination that resulted from LANL operations before 1999 and packaging and shipping radioactive and hazardous waste off-site for permanent disposal (n3b-la.com).
