ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team supporting the DOE's Y-12 National Security Complex! This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing high quality detailed design packages, providing engineering procurement and field technical support to implement those designs, and providing expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant systems.

  • Responsible for the preparation of conceptual engineering deliverables such as cost-estimating bills of material and labor-hour estimates, statements of work, design criteria, and title II design engineering deliverables including preparation of calculations and analyses, construction specifications & drawings, and equipment specifications.

  • Work effectively and cooperatively as a team member of an integrated project team.

  • Perform walkdowns in the existing plant facilities in order to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel.

  • Apply technical expertise and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the Electrical Engineering field with primarily instrumentation/controls focus for equipment process control and monitoring.

  • Provide self-performed technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems through the application of established engineering practices, codes, and standards.

  • Provide field troubleshooting support of existing systems will be required to inform design for corrective actions.

  • Responsible for preparing conduit/cable schedules, conduit/equipment plans, one-line diagrams, wiring/connection/schematic diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, various sections/elevations/details, calculations, datasheets, and construction specifications.

  • Develop control cabinet assembly drawings, system diagrams, and control logic for both batch and continuous processes using conventional analog instrumentation, distributed digital control systems, and programmable logic controller/human-machine interfaces (PLCs/HMIs).

  • Develop process control system narratives, aid in the development of process software requirements, and provide input to Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing the National Electrical Code, UL508A, and relevant ISA standards to design instrumentation and controls systems.

Requirements

  • Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited University/College and 10+ years of relevant experience.

  • Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.

  • Clearance – To be considered, you MUST be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.

  • 3 yrs instrumentation and controls design engineering experience.

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing the National Electrical Code, UL508A, and relevant ISA standards to design instrumentation and controls systems.

  • Experience developing process control system narratives, aid in the development of process software requirements, and provide input to Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

Desired Skills

  • Experience utilizing Rockwell Automation industrial automation software (RSLogix, FactoryTalk View, etc.) is preferred, but not required.

  • Professional Engineering License (PE) is preferred but not required.

  • DOE Q-Clearance is highly desired, but not required to start work. Any uncleared candidates will be expected to apply for a clearance after starting work.

The NNSA's Y-12 National Security Complex, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is the nation’s only source of enriched uranium nuclear weapon components and provides enriched uranium for the U.S. Navy as well as excels in materials science, precision manufacturing, and stores enriched uranium. Y-12 supports efforts to reduce nuclear proliferation risk and performs work for other government agencies (energy.gov).
