Job Description Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of mechanical components, assemblies, and subsystems that support new product development and the installed product base. Working within established engineering processes and design standards, this role partners with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, reliable, and manufacturable solutions that meet quality, regulatory, cost, and performance objectives. The engineer contributes throughout the product development lifecycle while ensuring timely delivery of assigned technical work.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, validate, and support mechanical components, assemblies, and subsystems for new product development and sustaining engineering initiatives.

  • Apply sound mechanical engineering principles, design standards, and best practices to deliver robust, reliable, and compliant engineering solutions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Systems, Electrical, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Supply Chain, and Service to develop effective technical solutions.

  • Participate in all phases of the product development lifecycle, including concept development, architecture, detailed design, prototyping, verification, validation, manufacturing transfer, and post-launch support.

  • Perform engineering analyses, design calculations, tolerance stack-up analysis, and technical evaluations to support design decisions.

  • Develop and review engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, and technical documentation in accordance with established engineering standards.

  • Plan and execute component and subsystem Verification & Validation (V&V) activities to demonstrate product performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

  • Support supplier development, component qualification, manufacturing readiness, and engineering change activities.

  • Identify opportunities to improve product quality, manufacturability, reliability, cost, and design standardization.

  • Follow established engineering processes, quality systems, and documentation practices while delivering assigned work on schedule.

  • Participate in technical reviews, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Continuously expand technical knowledge through mentoring, training, and collaboration with engineering peers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or Tool Design is preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design, product development, and New Product Introduction (NPI).

  • Experience designing and developing mechanical components and assemblies from concept through production.

  • Hands-on experience with prototype development, testing, design verification, and design iteration.

  • Experience collaborating with suppliers and cross-functional teams to support component development, qualification, and manufacturing readiness.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including engineering mechanics, strength of materials, GD&T, tolerance analysis, hand calculations and engineering calculations.

  • Experience creating and reviewing engineering drawings and technical documentation in accordance with engineering standards.

  • Experience planning and executing Verification & Validation (V&V) activities.

  • Familiarity with structured product development processes, engineering change management, design reviews, and root cause analysis.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Desired Characteristics

  • Demonstrated ability to independently execute mechanical design activities with strong attention to quality and detail.

  • Experience leading technical tasks or coordinating design activities across cross-functional teams.

  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and cost optimization principles.

  • Experience supporting global engineering programs and collaborating with geographically distributed teams.

  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong stakeholder management and technical communication skills.

  • Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify and implement process improvements.

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is preferred.

  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
