Development Engineer III

Location: BRNO MĚSTO, Czech Republic; Hybrid

POSITION PURPOSE
The Development Engineer for Mobile and Industrial technologies is responsible for development of E-cooling compressor to improve the overall thermal management on current and future generations of Mobile and Industrial platforms. The responsibilities are a combination of product design ownership, product definition and road mapping. Further, customer engineering, baseline management, risk assessment as well as optimization of product process belong to his assignments as part of cross-functional collaboration with talented and passionate colleagues who share enthusiasm for technical excellence and innovation.   
 

 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND ROLES
 

• Engages with Customers and System Engineering teams to collect product and certification requirements for thermal system / E-Cooling compressor development towards SOP.
• Develops E-Cooling compressor to meet system and application requirements with optimal efficiency, cost, weight, manufacturability, and serviceability while adhering to platform standards and to maintain project timeline.
• Leads DFMEA and design reviews to optimize the best product design.
• Optimizes E-Cooling Compressor / Thermal management system using simulation tools and testing to achieve performance and system requirements at specified operating conditions of Mobile and Industrial projects.
• Maintains documentation of product standards, technical processes, lessons learnt, engineering changes, technical proposal, meeting minutes and gap analysis as well as drives root cause analysis, risk assessment and mitigation plans /actions.   
• Drives APQP for robust and optimized design for manufacturability.
  Supports Supply Base on supplier and process development for successful SOP at cost and quality targets as well as supports robust supplier assessment and selection.
• Partners with Advance Manufacturing Engineering (AME) to align on processes, product process design optimization, process development and successful SOP at cost and quality targets.
• Drives Value engineering and resourcing for cost reduction and quality improvement.
• Interfaces with suppliers and internal customers to ensure timely program deliverables within budget.
• Takes accountability for planning and budget for his own projects.
• Accountable for documenting, presenting and reporting projects against a committed timeline.
• Leads collaboration with external companies and universities in the context of his projects.
• Maintains relationship with top players in the field of expertise (universities, labs, suppliers,…) in order to anticipate trends, stay on top of industry best practices and define the best strategy for tools development.
• Ensure personal training / development  in the area of expertise.
• Support product development and application launches, resolves launch issues and field issues when appropriate.

 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Masters / Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Min 6-8 years of engineering experience.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Experience in CAD packages.

Nice to have:
Experience with HVAC systems and its components / system level  interactions with various operating optimization trade off knowledge.
Experience with heat pumps/  electric compressor  and its operating principles on Mobile and/or Industrial application. 
Experience with communication protocols (LIN, CAN, MODBUS) / interface with HVAC components. 
Experience in thermal management, heat transfer, and fluid transfer at a vehicle level with automotive OEM’s  or/ HVAC and Powertrain Cooling hardware suppliers.
Experience with automotive / industrial Thermal Systems parts including inlet plenums, filters, fans and blowers, HVAC modules, cabin ducting, heat exchangers, and fluid transfer components.
Knowledge of Automotive / industrial cooling and heating requirements / technical specifications / certifications requirements.
