Role Overview
As a Principal Engineer, you will serve as the technical North Star for the engineering organization. You will operate at the intersection of product vision and technical execution, owning the most complex architectural and system-level challenges.
This is a senior technical leadership role—not just an individual contributor. You will be a mentor, strategist, and hands-on builder who ensures that systems are scalable, resilient, maintainable, and aligned with long-term business goals.
Core Responsibilities
Technical Strategy & Architecture
- Define and evolve the long-term technical roadmap across frontend, backend, and infrastructure
- Make high-impact architectural decisions related to system design, technology choices, and scalability
- Establish architectural patterns and best practices that support long-term growth and reliability
- Evaluate trade-offs between speed, quality, and future extensibility
Complex Problem Solving
- Lead efforts on ambiguous, cross-functional technical problems that span multiple systems or teams
- Design and review solutions involving distributed systems, concurrency, performance, reliability, and security
- Provide guidance on system behavior under scale, failure scenarios, and peak load conditions
Systems Reliability & Performance
- Own and influence system stability, performance, and operational excellence
- Define and track key performance and reliability metrics
- Drive profiling, optimization, and continuous improvement of both client-facing and backend systems
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Act as a bridge between Engineering, Product, Design, and other stakeholders
- Translate business and product requirements into clear technical designs and trade-offs
- Help non-technical stakeholders understand system constraints, risks, and long-term implications
Mentorship & Engineering Culture
- Raise the overall technical bar across the organization
- Mentor senior engineers and guide them on architecture, design, and career growth
- Conduct deep-dive design and code reviews, setting standards for quality and maintainability
- Foster a culture of ownership, simplicity, and continuous learning
Hands-on Execution
- Remain actively involved in critical-path development, prototypes, or reference implementations
- Write production-quality code where it matters most
- Build internal tools, frameworks, or “gold standard” solutions for teams to adopt
Must-Have Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2–3+ years in a Staff or Principal-level role
- Proven experience designing and operating large-scale, distributed systems in high-traffic environments
- Proficiency in Go or C++ (any one atleast)
- Experience with real-time or high-concurrency systems and modern communication protocols (e.g., WebSockets, gRPC)
- Strong understanding of performance, latency, scalability, and reliability trade-offs
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Hands-on experience with profiling, debugging, and performance optimization of backend systems
- Familiarity with client-side or application performance profiling
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with multiplayer, real-time, or stateful systems
- Exposure to game engines or rich client frameworks (e.g., Unity, Cocos)
- Familiarity with live systems, feature rollouts, or event-driven architectures
- Experience operating systems at large user scale
