We're looking for a CloudOps Engineer to help build, scale and optimise the cloud infrastructure that powers thousands of connected devices operating in some of the world's most remote locations.

This is not a maintenance role. It's an opportunity to influence the architecture, reliability, performance and future scalability of a global IoT platform at an exciting stage of growth.

Why This Role Matters

Every eShepherd neckband continuously streams data from the field to our cloud platform.

As customer adoption accelerates, we're expanding into new regions, supporting increasing device volumes and introducing new capabilities on top of the same foundation.

You'll be the engineer helping us answer questions like:

• How do we scale before customers feel the pain?

• Where are the bottlenecks hiding?

• How do we design infrastructure that supports global growth?

You'll work closely with our software engineers, cloud specialists and product teams across Melbourne and Hamilton while playing a critical role in supporting our growing North American business.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll:

• Design, build and optimise scalable AWS cloud infrastructure

• Analyse system performance, capacity and reliability at scale

• Improve database performance, architecture and operational efficiency

• Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines and deployment tooling

• Strengthen monitoring, observability and incident response practices

• Help shape multi-region and global platform architecture

• Investigate and solve complex performance and scalability challenges

• Support production environments that are relied upon by customers every day

• Partner with customer-facing teams to understand how our platform performs in real-world environments

• Influence engineering decisions through experimentation, evidence and data-driven insights

This is a highly autonomous role where you'll uncover problems, challenge assumptions, bring evidence and help define the solution.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone who is curious, practical and enjoys solving difficult technical challenges.

You'll likely bring:

• Experience managing and scaling production AWS environments

• Strong knowledge of MySQL performance tuning and database optimisation

• Experience with containerised environments, including ECS and/or EKS

• Expertise in monitoring, alerting and incident management

• Infrastructure as Code experience, ideally using Terraform

• Strong CI/CD and automation skills

• Python, Node.js or similar scripting capability

• Experience diagnosing performance, reliability and scalability issues

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across distributed teams

Bonus Points For Experience With

• IoT platforms and connected devices

• MQTT, LTE-M, NB-IoT or LoRa

• Grafana, Prometheus or similar observability tooling

• Multi-region cloud deployments

• DevSecOps practices

• High-volume telemetry or time-series systems
