Job Description
Thermal Engineer; Component Development is responsible for the development of key components for electric vehicle thermal system, including electric compressor, high voltage heater, refrigerant and coolant valves. The engineer will work with thermal system engineer, test engineers and suppliers to develop key components to become the benchmark of automotive industry. The main role of Thermal Engineer; Component Development is to define functional and performance targets, supply chain strategy, resolve issue and optimize thermal components for weight/cost while satisfying program milestones.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of HV compressor, HV heater and valves for refrigerant & coolant. Responsibilities include defining functional and performance requirements, DV/PV, supplier strategy and supporting Thermal system engineer for vehicle integration.
- Support and interface with the team of powertrain, power electronics, vehicle integration, body structure, energy storage system engineers to assure thermal component packaging, installation and optimize functional environment.
- Benchmark competitive thermal components, to define functional target and engineering specifications
- Create proof of concept demonstrations for integrated thermal management systems
- Work closely with suppliers on design evaluation and validation of the thermal components in order to meet product specification and requirements
- Coordinate and conduct hardware testing in the lab to verify and validate thermal management system hardware functionality and reliability
- Lead engineering meetings with vendors.
- Develop and execute tests for analytic model verification to real world results.
- Manage simulation results and alignment with CAD
- Provide input in the creation of component specification, component DFMEA, and other technical design documents where analysis plays a central role.
- Responsible for EMC/EMI performance
- Assist in the development of comprehensive design verification and validation activities, including writing test procedures, environmental testing fixtures and data acquisition systems
- Describe development proposals and problem descriptions
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited University.
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with specialty in refrigerant cycle, thermal dynamics, fluid mechanics and/or power electronics is a plus
- Good working knowledge refrigerant, coolant, airflow, injection molded parts, brazed components and high voltage components.
- Hands-on experience of refrigerant components, sensors, valves and fluid transport component design
- Experience in heat pipe application is a plus
- 5~10 years of working experiences in the thermal management system area for HEV,PHEV and EV.
- In-plant and/or program/vehicle launch experience
- Working experience with automotive systems design, packaging and assembly requirements
