Platform Engineer - Hamburg

Hamburg, Germany
AWS MariaDB Microservices Python Rust Terraform PostgreSQL Java API
Description

About the Role
We are looking for a Platform Engineer to join our Measurement Development Platform team. This role is located in our Hamburg (Germany) office, and we value in-person collaboration and as such we are an office-first team with some flexibility and occasional remote work when needed.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge infrastructure and backend systems that support our machine learning-driven marketing measurement capabilities. You will play a critical part in evolving our data ingestion and storage systems, including databases and big data platforms, while maintaining the integrity of our existing infrastructure. Additionally, you will contribute to the development and optimization of our server-side tracking product.

Team & Culture
At Funnel, we work in cross-functional teams and put a strong emphasis on team collaboration. Teams here are not handed requirements, but rather problems to solve. Together with your peers, you develop and take responsibility for your specific part of the product. Learning is central to us, and we use both qualitative and quantitative methods to evaluate features and discover opportunities.

The team's focus is on building a robust platform that empowers other product, data science, and data engineering teams to be more effective. This role requires close collaboration with both internal teams and technology stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and platform scalability.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and maintain scalable backend infrastructure for our measurement development platform using AWS (Terraform, Kinesis, Redshift, EMR) and RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MariaDB).

  • Implement and enhance microservices written in Python, Rust, and Java to support our server-side tracking, API endpoints, and data ingestion pipelines.

  • Design, build, and maintain self-service applications that empower other teams to leverage our measurement platform.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize our data architecture, improve system reliability, and enhance the observability of our microservices.

  • Contribute to DevOps practices by maintaining and optimizing our cloud infrastructure, ensuring compliance with ISO standards.

  • Support the team's efforts in system monitoring, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.

Who You Are

  • You are a pragmatic problem solver who values simplicity over complexity.

  • You are passionate about enabling other teams to be more efficient through self-service tooling and robust infrastructure.

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on backend or infrastructure.

  • Proficiency in at least two out of three languages: Python, Java, Rust.

  • Hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure (Terraform, ECS, Kinesis, Redshift, EMR).

  • Strong understanding of microservice architecture, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring.

  • Experience working in DevOps or platform teams, ideally with a focus on self-service tools.

  • Ability to design and maintain RDBMS and Big Data systems (PostgreSQL, MariaDB, AWS Redshift and similar).

  • Fluent in English with strong communication skills.

  • Experience in agile teams and a willingness to drive projects forward in a collaborative manner.

Why Join Us?

  • Join a forward-thinking team dedicated to building platforms that empower others.

  • Work in a vibrant office-first environment in Hamburg with flexibility for occasional remote work.

  • Opportunity to shape and influence our tech ecosystem with the chance to work on cutting-edge technology.

  • Competitive salary, learning budget, and growth opportunities.

Interview Process

  • Initial Interview: Get to know each other, discuss your experience and motivations.

  • Coding Assignment: A take-home assignment to assess your coding and problem-solving abilities.

  • Technical Interview: Discussion around your assignment, technical deep dives, and system design exercises.

  • Final Interview: Meet with key stakeholders and discuss team alignment and culture fit.
