HPC Consultant

Location: Barcelona, Spain; Hybrid

Key Accountabilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain HPC.

  • Experience in high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure deployments

  • Lead the technical architecture of compute clusters, high-speed interconnects, and storage systems.

  • Work closely with R&D teams to align infrastructure with application and research requirements.

  • Define operational standards, automation strategies, and best practices.

  • Ensure platform availability, performance, and security.

  • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and their applicability.

  • Act as a technical reference for HPC and quantum computing within the organization.

 

Responsibilities

Design and implementation of:

  • HPC platforms: compute clusters, GPU acceleration, high-performance interconnects (InfiniBand, advanced Ethernet).

  • Scheduling and orchestration: SLURM, PBS, or similar workload managers.

  • Storage systems: parallel file systems (Lustre, GPFS), object storage, and hybrid solutions.

  • Containers and reproducible environments: Singularity/Apptainer, Docker, Kubernetes for HPC workloads.

  • Automation & Infrastructure as Code: Ansible, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines.

  • Quantum computing integration: quantum simulators, SDKs (Qiskit, Cirq, Braket), and cloud or hardware backends.

  • Performance tuning and resource optimization.

  • Advanced user support and incident resolution.

  • Technical documentation and knowledge sharing.

  • Collaboration with vendors, research centers, and technology partners.

 

Desired Skills and Qualifications Technical Skills

Strong experience in:

  • Large-scale Linux systems.

  • HPC and accelerated computing (CPU/GPU).

  • SLURM or other job schedulers.

  • High-performance networking (InfiniBand, RDMA).

  • HPC containers (Singularity/Apptainer).

  • Automation (Ansible, Terraform, Bash, Python).

  • Knowledge of:

  • Quantum computing fundamentals and hybrid workflows.

  • Quantum SDKs (Qiskit, Cirq, Braket, or similar).

  • HPC–Cloud integration (AWS, Azure, GCP).

  • Experience with NVIDIA/AMD hardware and Mellanox networking is a plus.

  • Ability to translate scientific or business requirements into technical solutions.

  • Languages: Spanish & English

 

Experience

Proven experience (3+ years) as:

  • HPC Platform Engineer

  • Scientific Computing Systems Engineer

  • DevOps / SRE in high-performance environments

  • Experience in research institutions, supercomputing centers, or advanced industrial environments is highly valued.
