As an Embedded Software Test Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of our embedded software and firmware products through the development of good software test approaches and implementation of automated testing processes. You will work closely with highly skilled cross-functional teams to ensure our applications meet the highest standards of quality and performance. Your expertise in test automation will be essential in driving the efficiency and effectiveness of our testing processes, and improving how Fluke delivers on its commitments. Our embedded software/firmware enables our customers to visualize, diagnose, track, calibrate, and report issues using a wide range of Fluke products.
This candidate will operate as part of our agile Scrum teams to ensure that completed development tasks are tested quickly, meet the standards we demand, and provide invaluable feedback to our embedded software developers at the point of feature implementation. They will have responsibility in testing the embedded software/firmware/UI code for Fluke products to ensure they meet quality standards. They will also help develop testing methodologies and best practices.
You will play a critical role in ensuring that our teams are delivering high-quality products on time.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as embedded software tester/lead for major development project or multiple simultaneous projects
- Create and implement test strategies and plans which include embedded software application layer and User Interface.
- Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks using Python/C++ or similar, including UI testing via standardized approaches (e.g. Squish etc)
- Participating in Agile processes, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives
- Collaborate with developers, product managers, and other QA team members to identify and resolve issues
- Write and maintain comprehensive documentation for all testing activities
- Conduct manual testing when necessary to ensure thorough coverage
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies to ensure our testing processes remain current and competitive
- Work collaboratively with others to achieve goals
- Work with the development team on any testing needs for test automation
- Lead the testing aspects of our Embedded Software/Firmware design and implementation of new product development programs
- Participate in all phases of software development, including software requirements, implementation, code reviews, test, and operations
Desired Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree/Master of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar technical field of study with a strong embedded firmware/software background.
- At least 8 years test automation on embedded software products that use C/C++ as the coding language
- Experience with Agile-based development process, preferably some flavor of Scrum, on multiple projects.
- Strong understanding of modern embedded software build systems
- At least 3 years using Python, C/C++ or similar language to implement test automation processes
- Proficient in white box testing, and Experience with automation tools
- Experience with source control tools (Bitbucket, Git, etc.)
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Proficient in writing test scenarios (English), strategy and measure the Definition of Done.
- Ability to work independently and multitask
- Ability to learn new programming concepts, languages, and practices.
- Knowledge/Development experience with ARM core processors and/or bare metal code is a bonus
- Experience testing Qt/QML/Widget and LVGL
- Excellent communication skills – you will have colleagues in Austria, Germany and the UK.
- Flexibility in working across timezones – collaboration with colleagues in Fluke HQ in Seattle, US is occasionally required.
- Willingness to travel on occasion (US/EU/UK)
