Flight Itinerary (About The Role)

Manage & lead an organizational team that partners with product and delivery engineering teams to provide customers with platform capabilities and reliable services for FLYR’s evolving product portfolio. The Platform Engineering Function is one of our teams at the center of our strategy for scaling, and constantly improving our GCP environments.

What Your Journey Will Look Like (Responsibilities)

  • The person in this role will be focused on leading a team responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of GCP Infrastructure and Platform that enables our Product engineering team members to build innovative products and features
  • Your team will drive the onboarding and operational support of multiple customer environments and platforms
  • Your team will be responsible for provisioning and maintaining infrastructure as code, automating deployment and release processes, and building platform services that can be used across the FLYR product portfolio
  • You’ll participate in building a team culture of good architecture, driving best practice operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, and cost optimization with fellow team members and across FLYR more broadly
  • You'll work closely with a range of experienced, and talented technicians from across FLYR, and continue to develop our own set of Company standards, patterns and frameworks for secure, high-performing, resilient, and efficient infrastructure, applications and workloads
  • You'll be taking part in internal and external video meetings

What To Pack For This Trip (Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, equivalent experience, or related field preferred
  • Experience designing and implementing cloud native architectures based on modern DevOps/SRE principles and best practices
  • Strong hands on technical experience in software development, deployment and operations on public Cloud platform (ideally GCP), CICD, deployment automation, and Pipeline as Code
  • 3+ years of experience with container orchestration technologies, observability, incident management, and continuous integration and deployment best practices
  • Comfortable working with common DevSecOps practices and tooling
  • Ability to go deeper than most on one or more domains - Software Architecture, Tooling/Pipelines/DevSecOps, Kubernetes, Databases, and/or Networking
  • Ability to learn quickly, understand, and work with new emerging technologies, methodologies, and solutions in Cloud, DevSecOps, and Software Development
  • Understand requests from Product and Deliver teams, ensure clarity and alignment on technical details, and negotiate on scope and priority with peer engineering managers
  • Leadership experience as people manager leading a technical team
  • Experience as engineering manager to be able to: hire strong technical people in Platform Engineering team, ensure good onboarding of new hires, understand team’s technical work, suggest process improvements, manage vendor performance and expectations, plan for team growth based on FLYR needs
  • Strong communication skills; able to communicate technical concepts to nontechnical audiences
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and complex engagements
  • Experience managing a team with 24x7 coverage across multiple regions
