Principal Software Engineer/Developer

Position Description: 

Develops a cloud-native financial services platform using modern technologies. Develops complex or multiple software applications and conducts studies of alternatives to translate divisional initiatives into business solutions. Builds and deploys REST Application Program Interfaces (APIs) by leveraging tools such as SQL, Rest Assured, and Postman. Develops complex microservices and real-time applications using gRPC and API. Reviews and validates test plans. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Participates in architecture design teams. 

• Defines and implements application level architecture. 

• Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division. 

• Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans. 

• Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables. 

• Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems. 

• Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms. 

• Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget. 

• Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects. 

• Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects. 

• Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues. 

• Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives. 

• Advises senior management on technical strategy. 

• Mentors junior team members. 

• Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.  

• Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts. 

Education and Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) developing scalable and high throughput enterprise level services and middle tier streaming applications using Java in a Microservice Architecture. 

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) developing scalable and high throughput enterprise level services and middle tier streaming applications using Java in a Microservice Architecture. 

Skills and Knowledge: 

Candidate must also possess: 

• Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) designing and implementing enterprise software applications using Java/J2EE, Expand, Maria DB, Microservices, Kubernetes, Heidi SQL, Redis, Postgres and Compatible DB, and Spring Rest or AWS S3 or NoSQL (MongoDB) in a distributed environment; and implementing automated test cases using testing frameworks -- Junit, Cucumber, and BDD -- and containerizing applications using docker. 

• DE implementing ETL and batch solutions for record keeping using Spring Batch, Control-M, and open-source frameworks and libraries; and building data ingestion pipelines using event-based frameworks -- Spring Cloud Data Flow or Confluence Kafka. 

• DE performing data mapping of HTTP REST calls, using Swagger or Postman, and using Talend API Tester and Data Dog; implementing distributed logging and tracing using Sleuth; and using security protocols -- Spring security, OAuth and JWT. 

• DE building scalable Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines following Agile development methodologies using Git, Maven, Jenkins, Helm and EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Services); and building log aggregating dashboards for monitoring and alerts, using Splunk and Datadog.
