Principal Software Engineer/Developer

Position Description: 

Designs and Develops cloud based serverless applications using Javascript, Nodejs, Oracle, and IBM mainframes, including COBOL, DB2, JCL, VSAM, and CICS. Builds, deploys, and runs Nodejs applications on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Develop infrastructure as code and automate processes of building and deploying applications to cloud. Migrates monolithic applications to microservices architecture using Nodejs, AWS resources, and relational SQL databases - Oracle. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives  into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development procedures, standards, and strategies for improved efficiency of applications. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Participates in architecture design teams.  

• Designs applications or subsystems on major projects and for/in multiple platforms.  

• Recommends development and testing methodologies and reviews and validates test plans. 

• Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.  

• Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.  

• Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.  

• Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.  

• Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.  

• Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.  

• Mentors junior team members.  

• Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.  

• Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.  

• Supports and performs all phases of testing leading to implementation. 

Education and Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) performing architecture design and development of enterprise scale Cloud serverless applications and IBM mainframe technologies for brokerage industry corporate actions. 

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) performing architecture design and development of enterprise scale Cloud serverless applications and IBM mainframe technologies for brokerage industry corporate actions. 

Skills and Knowledge: 

Candidate must also possess: 

• Demonstrated Expertise (DE) performing architectural design and development of Enterprise scale applications to manage complex data and build serverless cloud applications, using JSON, Java, Node.JS, and Cloud technologies; developing shareable libraries and event driven architecture patterns for corporate actions; and creating Golden Announcements and payment records using Amazon Web Services (AWS) Lambdas and Step Functions for processing and for Cloud resources.  

• DE performing design and development of Enterprise scale applications to manage complex data on Mainframe using COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL and VSAM; and developing and maintaining reusable programs to migrate corporate actions data from Mainframe to AWS.  

• DE performing production support of Enterprise scale applications by taking ownership of the availability and providing quality of service, including monitoring batch jobs, providing on-call support (24x7), and monitoring and maintaining multiple applications in production environments that run on Mainframe COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL and VSAM.  

• DE developing COBOL-DB2 Stored procedures; and writing and executing SQL queries against DB2 databases, for applications to track and report Cost Basis.
