Designs and builds large-scale, highly available, resilient, secure, scalable, Cloud-native (Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure) enterprise applications on micro-services, and event-driven architectures using domain driven design and 12-factor app patterns. Maintains integrated databases to provide complete participant data to applications. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.
Primary Responsibilities:
Participates in architecture design teams.
Defines and implements application level architecture.
Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division.
Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.
Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.
Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.
Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.
Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.
Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.
Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
Advises senior management on technical strategy.
Mentors junior team members.
Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.
Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Applied Computer Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing, developing, implementing, and integrating workplace benefit applications according to Waterfall and Agile methodologies.
Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Applied Computer Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing, developing, implementing, and integrating workplace benefit applications according to Waterfall and Agile methodologies.
Skills and Knowledge:
Candidate must also possess:
Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) defining application architecture strategies and designing technical design flows with subject matter expertise of business data required for Workplace Benefit solutions, using Visio and Confluence draw.io; and re-platforming and migrating legacy monolithic applications to Cloud deployable services, using Java, Spring Boot, JSR-352, and PL/SQL.
DE developing and maintaining ETL applications using Informatica Power Center, Informatica Data Quality and Control-M; writing scripts and stored procedures to extract and load data within relational database environments, using Syncsort and Oracle SQL; and performance tuning database applications using Explain Plan, SQL Advisor, and AWR reports.
DE designing and developing low latency, highly scalable containerized Microservices using Java, Spring REST, and OAuth; mapping database queries to Java methods using myBatis; combining internal system outputs to form consolidated Web services response for consumption, using Java Serialization, XML, and JSON; and performing Test-Driven Development (TDD) using testing frameworks -- Junit, Mockito, and Soatest.
DE implementing scalable event-driven real time data pipelines and in memory cache solutions to provide data to consuming WI applications, MDM, Datawarehouse, and Enterprise Data Lake, using Kafka, IBM Qrep, and Ehcache; and implementing Audit reconciliation processes and quality control reports to maintain data consistency across databases, using i/Lytics, Address Doctor, and OBIEE reports.
