Principal Software Engineer/Developer

Position Description: 

Improves applications using Object-Oriented Design (OOD), coding standards, RESTful service consumption and integration, common design patterns, secure application development, and test coverage. Develops software applications using server-side/mid-tier languages, frameworks, and libraries -- Java EE, Apache Tomcat, Spring MVC/Spring Boot, Logback, SLF4j, Maven Angular, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node, NPM, lFITML/CSS, and RxJS. Develops, deploys, and supports key applications and features. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Participates in architecture design teams. 

• Defines and implements application level architecture. 

• Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division. 

• Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans. 

• Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables. 

• Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems. 

• Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects. 

• Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives. 

• Advises senior management on technical strategy. 

• Mentors junior team members. 

• Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.  

• Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts. 

Education and Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) performing Web Development using Angular, HTML, CSS, and Javascript. 

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) performing Web Development using Angular, HTML, CSS, and Javascript. 

Skills and Knowledge: 

Candidate must also possess: 

• Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) developing enterprise applications in distributed environments using Angular, J2EE, Spring MVC, Spring Boot, and ORM frameworks (Hibernate); and developing Web services (producers and consumers) using SOAP/REST, OpenAPI, Swagger API, APIgee, and Tomcat servers. 

• DE configuring continuous build and integration flows using Git, Jenkins, Maven, and Nexus in a UNIX environment (Solaris/Linux); scripting automated application deployment flows and supporting and maintaining large-scale enterprise systems in public cloud (AWS) or private cloud solutions using Docker Container management technology. 

• DE designing and developing responsive Web MVC applications using JavaScript MVC frameworks, client-side technologies, Content Management (CM) systems, server-side technologies, Web security technologies (OAuth and SAML), and Integrated Development Environments (IDEs). 

• DE performing automation and monitoring of web based customer facing applications using DevOps -- Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery, using Jenkins and Nexus; performing version control using Git; performing issue tracking using Jira and Service Now; and performing log tracking using Splunk.
