Senior Manager, Platform Reliability Engineering
Fastly’s Technical Operations (TechOps) team is responsible for building & operating the infrastructure that powers the Fastly Edge Cloud Platform. We oversee an extensive global network that spans 6 continents with over 353 TBps of connected capacity. Our platform serves a significant portion of the content delivered to internet consumers across the planet, with customers ranging from online media streaming services to e-commerce, to open source projects, nonprofits and more.
As a Senior Manager, you will help us shape the vision of reliability engineering and provide leadership for a team of engineers responsible for driving improved reliability and performance of Fastly’s edge cloud. We are looking for a supportive and inspirational leader to help our team meet the demands of rapid global expansion and customer onboarding. As a leader in the Technical Operations organization, you will hire, retain, and mentor engineers to take on the challenges of supporting a platform that is always-on with industry-leading availability and uptime.

What You'll Do

Recruit, develop, and mentor a high performing Platform Reliability Engineering team.

Reduce manual toil and risk by leading reliability and automation efforts for Fastly’s edge cloud platform.

Proactively identify scaling bottlenecks. Collaborate with internal engineering and infrastructure teams in support of rapid platform expansion.

Work as part of a cross functional engineering team for iteration of POP design, new hardware selection, and platform advancements.

Build and curate the frameworks, processes, and operational procedures that provide added reliability and security to Fastly’s platform.

Partner with engineering leaders responsible for each component of the Fastly stack and infrastructure to ensure 24x7 reliability for our customers.
What We're Looking For
-
You have a fantastic track record (at least 4 years) directly managing network and/or site reliability engineering teams that operate reliable production infrastructure.
-
8+ years of related engineering experience, preferably in large distributed systems or software defined networking environments
-
Demonstrated ability to drive a durable technical roadmap and facilitate effective collaboration in cross-functional teams.
-
Experience building and automating large scale production infrastructure in public cloud and on-prem environments.
-
Extensive experience working in a Linux environment with a solid understanding of system internals and performance optimization.

Strong networking fundamentals, experience working with BGP in a production environment.

Hands on development experience in a language such as Go.
We’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:

Knowledge of containerization technologies & orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)

Familiarity with cloud architecture (Amazon, Google)

This position will require you to be available during core business hours, and occasional nights and weekends as needed for on call support.

Salary:
The estimated salary range for this position is $195,720 to $244,645.
Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
