THE POSITION

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist for our Sports Modeling & Innovation team to tackle our most challenging sports modeling problems. You will work on revolutionizing sports modeling through innovative pricing strategies, live betting, and forward-thinking methodologies. In this role, you will drive the development and implementation of cutting-edge models, tools, and strategies to enhance our trading product offerings. You will have an opportunity to mentor other data scientists focused on creative solutions, working closely with cross-functional groups including trading and engineering.

Innovation & Strategy

• Identify and prioritize strategic initiatives and high-stakes commercial opportunities
• Experiment with and evaluate new techniques to inform long-term trading product strategy
• Conduct research on emerging technologies to enhance sports modeling capabilities

Leadership

• Identify, grow and develop top talent within the Data Science organization
• Present to senior stakeholders with impact
• Build trust and strong relationships with teams and stakeholders through high performance and empathy
• Guide regular forums within or across teams to ensure key points and conclusions are disseminated and understood
• Makes significant contributions to, sets agenda for and helps steer large group meetings

Sports Modeling

• Develop, iterate, and take to production machine learning models to predict sports outcomes and solve problems
• Iterate and improve on betting product range to ensure best in market offering
• Continuous improvement in pricing techniques - both at an individual level and working with trading teams to optimize predictive and derivative model pricing
• Choose appropriate tools, systems and models to solve large data problems
• Troubleshoot and resolve coding and modeling problems presented by others
• Proactively seek opportunities or problems to be explored
• Build robust predictive models, showing capabilities of feature and model selection
• Work with decision-makers across the company to understand their goals, identify opportunities to use data to develop new insights and improve business results
• Create dashboards and data visualizations for analysis and communication
• Identify inefficiencies in ways of working and seeks to solve them
• Engage with engineering to build scalable tools to accelerate the conversion of data to insight
• Manage the data preparation process from collection through cleaning
• Contribute to a production code environment
• Identify, grow and develop top talent within the Data Science organization

THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate

• Minimum of 5 years’ of industry experience in data science, analytics or engineering preferred
• Bachelor's Degree in a highly numerate major (Math, Stats, Econ, etc.) or relevant experience in data science preferred
• Experience managing or mentoring other data scientists
• Strong quantitative skills, with high proficiency in Python or R, and SQL (or coding language of choice)
• Expert in building and using models to help create production level products and tools
• Proficient with command line tools and GitHub
• Object-oriented design and coding skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills - present findings to senior management, being accountable for the agenda of the projects owned
• Help the stakeholders in understanding the business goals and targets
• Bring efficiency and automation in the data infrastructure
• Ability to work across teams, locations and time zones
• Willing to work nontraditional hours when applicable
• Interest or experience in Sports Gaming and/or Fantasy Sports

 The applicable salary range for this position is $126,000 - $173,800 USD, which is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience, location, business needs and market demand. This role may offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including, but not limited to, cash bonuses and stock program participation. This role includes paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays. FanDuel offers paid sick time in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.
