We’re looking for a visionary Senior Director of Data Platform to lead the design, implementation, and scaling of a world-class data platform that empowers our teams and drives enterprise-wide decision-making.
As the Senior Director of Data Platform, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s data strategy. This position combines strategic leadership, technical expertise, and operational excellence. You will lead a talented team of engineers, partner with cross-functional stakeholders, and own the roadmap for building a unified, scalable, secure, and reliable data platform to enable advanced analytics, machine learning, and real-time decision-making.

THE GAME PLAN

- Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the data platform in alignment with the company’s business objectives.
- Drive innovation in the data platform space, ensuring scalability, flexibility, and future-proof architecture.
- Act as a thought leader and trusted advisor to executive leadership, providing strategic recommendations on data initiatives and solutions.
- Technical Ownership
- Architect and oversee the development of a next-generation data platform leveraging cutting-edge technologies.
- Ensure the platform supports complex use cases, including real-time streaming, big data processing, and advanced machine learning.
- Champion best practices in software engineering, including CI/CD, automation, and observability, to deliver robust, fault-tolerant systems.
- Team Building & Mentorship
- Build, lead, and inspire a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor senior engineers and managers, developing their technical and leadership skills.
- Ensure cross-functional collaboration, promoting knowledge sharing and alignment across data, engineering, and business teams.
- Operational Excellence
- Optimize the platform for cost, performance, and reliability while maintaining the highest standards of data governance and compliance.
- Partner with data security teams to ensure data platform security and privacy are integral to all designs and implementations.
- Continuously monitor and improve system health, data quality, and platform SLAs.
THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering, software development, or related fields, with 5+ years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of building and scaling data platforms in high-growth or enterprise environments.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and modern data technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka, Databricks, Kubernetes, Confluent).
- Experience in cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Strong proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, Java) and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Hands-on experience with data pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster) and real-time processing frameworks.
- Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven skills in team management, strategic planning, and stakeholder alignment.
- Track record of hiring, developing, and retaining top engineering talent.

The applicable salary range for this position is $225,000 - $309,100, which is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience, location, business needs and market demand. This role may offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including, but not limited to, cash bonuses and stock program participation. This role includes paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays. FanDuel offers paid sick time in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.
