Data Engineer III

Overview 

As a Data Engineer III at Fanatics Betting & Gaming (FBG), you will play a crucial role in the development, deployment, and management of our data architecture. In this role you will be responsible for building systems and user experiences for our internal customers that are able to aggregate customer data across many sources, integrate with various 3rd party systems and build customized solutions that drive actionable insights, which ultimately allow FBG to deliver a great and rewarding experience to our customers.  You will collaborate with a team of experts to design and implement systems that collect, manage, and convert raw data into usable information for data analysts and business users to interpret and activate.  This position is perfect for individuals who are passionate about data, have a knack for problem-solving, and possess a strong foundation in data engineering and data-driven problem-solving/analysis.  We are one team; we employ the principles of data-driven development, operational excellence, process calibration, and efficiency to deliver a stable, extensible platform at scale.  

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and construction of scalable data management systems, ensuring they meet business requirements and industry practices
• Design, build, and maintain scalable and robust data pipelines to support analytics, business intelligence, and machine learning models
• Implement and maintain databases and data processing systems to support data collection, integration, and retention requirements according to company policies
• Develop and optimize data pipelines, ensuring efficient and error-free data flow across the organization
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and implement solutions that enable efficient data analysis and reporting.
• Monitor the performance of data processing and storage systems, resolving any failures and ensuring data accuracy and security
• Implement data governance and security best practices to ensure data integrity and compliance with relevant regulations.
• Develop a fundamental understanding of our industry, product, feature set and roadmap
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior data engineers, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous learning
• Help to onboard new team members
• Stay updated with emerging trends and technologies in data engineering, applying new techniques and tools to improve our data ecosystem
• Must be open to occasional travel to Fanatics Betting & Gaming offices and other locations for events, meetings, and team-building activities

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of data engineering experience with a proven track record of helping to design and implement large-scale data solutions
• Possess a strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principle
• Demonstrated skills writing SQL queries
• Familiar with other data languages including R or Python, and tools like Tableau, Microstrategy, Redshift, or Snowflake
• Knowledgeable about data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing principles
• Familiar with 1 or more SQL and NoSQL databases, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra
• Solid analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Intellectually curious and interested in solving difficult problems
• Able to effectively communicate complex technical subjects to a variety of audiences (engineers, technical leaders, marketing and operations teams, non-technical functional leaders)
• You have an agile mindset; able to embrace new initiatives in a fast-paced environment
• Thrives in an entrepreneurial, hyper-growth environment where priorities evolve regularly and decisions are made quickly
• Team-first mentality, with a willingness to do what it takes to get the job done and a desire to strive for better

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a start-up environment
• Hands-on experience working with 1 or more real-time/streaming data or stream-processing technologies, including Kafka or Hazelcast (what we use), or Flink, Spark Streaming, or AWS options such as EventBridge, SQS, Kinesis, etc.
• Hands-on experience with 1 or more common data workflow orchestrators, including Airflow (what we use), or Prefect, Dagster, etc.

The expected salary range for this role is based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role is eligible for the Fanatics Betting and Gaming annual bonus program and an equity award.

*Salary range is listed in USD; ranges will change based on country and state of residence, which are reflected in Geographical Zones defined by Fanatics Betting and Gaming. *Salary Range: $120,000 to $240,000 (Salary range incorporates all of our Geographical Compensation Zones and is subject to change as the Zone associated with the actual Offer is confirmed).
