Software Development Engineer II (Backend)

Expedia Group has a mission to become the world’s largest travel platform. As part of that effort, Expedia Group’s Platform solutions is building a common platform for all Expedia brands and Partners to make the onboarding seamless.

As a software development engineer on the Platform Solutions, you will collaborate with other engineers on the design and development of billing capability that is event driven, simple to implement, easy to consume, highly performant and most importantly self-service. This common platform will replace brand specific implementations and will drive consistency, simplicity, unlock commercial opportunities, and cut operational and development costs.

What you'll do:

• Write clean, efficient, thoroughly tested code, backed-up with pair programming and code reviews. Much of our code is Java and Kotlin, but we use all kinds of languages and frameworks

• Seek knowledge from subject matter experts when needed.

• Be familiar with the concepts of building and operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets

• Develop and test standard software applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements

• Apply concepts of object-oriented design, distributed computing, performance/scalability tuning, advanced data structures and algorithms to real-time streaming and data processing

• Maintain awareness of advancements, innovations and changes in technologies (specifically relating to cloud data platforms)

• Communicate verbally and/or written on technology and design considerations and choices within team

Who you are:

• Bachelor's degree in a Technical field; or equivalent related professional experience

• Strong in a programming language (e.g. Java, Scala, Kotlin)

• Building APIs and data processing applications in production environments in public/hybrid cloud infrastructure

• Understanding of software development theory and design

• Demonstrates an understanding of testing, monitoring, and alerting

• Self-starter who is highly organized, communicative, quick learner, and team-oriented
