What you will do:

As an Engineer III much of your daily responsibilities handle live-site and corporate environment outages and investigations. This support will require you to drive the resolution of major incidents to the quickest possible service restoration. You will frequently collaborate with operational and development support teams, along with other business partners and customers to achieve your goals and drive improvement.  As a well-rounded and skilled technologist, you’ll also help directly repair impacted services where the opportunities exist. 

Other daily responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the first level of escalation for issues in the Expedia Group production environment
  • Play a key role in maintaining high availability for multiple online travel websites, leveraging a variety of monitoring and support tools to help diagnose and triage issues
  • Develop internal tools and process improvements in both proactive and reactive setting
  • Provide timely and accurate communication to internal stakeholders and external business partners
  • Learn and stay current with standard e-commerce and travel industry technology
  • Troubleshoot and triage complex technical issues spanning multiple teams and areas of responsibility
  • Collaborate with teammates and technical teams across the globe to bring together critical incident details including post-incident action items
  • Be a phenomenal teammate. Help the team learn and improve by delivering and sharing data, insight, analysis to help drive improvements.

Also,

  • Perform 2nd tier triage tasks to live site impacting incidents such as service redeploys and regional failovers in AWS.
  • Assist in creation reports, internal tool, process improvements, agile/scrum activities.
  • Identify and provide support for global dependencies such as domain membership and trusts, DNS requirements, and external dependencies.
  • Quickly and effectively learns new systems to rapidly identify potential solutions to resolve and prevent future service interruptions.
  • Independently drive complicated system related issues to resolution across multiple services and groups with little or no supervision.
  • Summarizes key elements of a technical problem and assigns cases to internal and external partners as necessary.
  • Provide drafting and review of technical documentation and Trouble Shooting Guides for first/second level personnel.

Who you are:

  • 10+ years working experience in 24/7 NOC and incident response type environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to expertly navigate major incident pressures and use times of stability to drive improvements and solve problems.
  • Experience managing resources in AWS through both console and other management tools, including identifying / terminating degraded resources and other triage methods.
  • Ability to troubleshoot large, complex systems with an eCommerce emphasis
  • Deep understanding in support of Microsoft Server OS versions, Linux Operating systems, as well as Cisco and other Network OS types as well as Load Balancer / Firewall concepts.
  • Good to have - medium level scripting skills in languages with a focus on automation and orchestration of operational support activities.
  • Experience with diagnostic and logging tools, previous Splunk usage a strong plus.
  • Effectively communicate technical issues in a non-technical manner and engage with a globally distributed team of technically diverse individuals.
  • Experience or certification in ITIL V3, Agile, SCRUM, Lean practices preferred.
  • Good communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
