Data Scientist II
The online travel market is a $2 trillion industry that never stands still. Expedia Global Payments team (EGP) provides and operates platform solutions that enable payment processing between Expedia and its network of travelers and partners. This includes payment methods that Expedia brands offer to travelers around the world and the payment options that Expedia uses to support effective relationships with partners and suppliers. In this role you will be a part of the Payments Business Intelligence team and play a significant role in advancing Expedia’s analytics capabilities. As an important part of the Product Analytics and Experimentation division, the Payments Business Intelligence team is responsible for building and maintaining the EGP data platform as well as delivering analytic insights, reports and self-service tools to global stakeholders.
Your mission will be to deliver quantitative analysis, decision support and reporting artifacts on a broad range of topics within the EGP domain. This requires the ability to identify the appropriate data sources, assess their usefulness, consolidate the required attributes, and derive meaningful information and insights. The focus goes beyond creating reports and pulling data – it is to tackle complex business problems, build compelling data-driven stories and become a trusted business advisor to a variety of cross functional BI consumers.
As a Data Scientist II within Product Analytics, you will work with diverse teams of subject matter experts, product managers, engineers, and others across multiple organizations to deliver data science solutions and recommendations. You will utilize ML, advanced analytical, and statistical techniques to create insights which will be used to provide recommendations, understand drivers, prove or disprove hypotheses, and help drive initiatives for business impact
What You Will Do:
Synthesize business scenarios into meaningful actionable analytics and reporting deliverables
Use your technical skills and knowledge to identify, collect, and evaluate data required for analyses
Apply solid coding skills, strong analytical and innovative thinking, and data science expertise to quickly learn new domains and turn innovative ideas into working solutions
Manipulate large data sets for business insights and drive solutions
Utilize appropriate methods and approaches to develop practical solutions for the business
Structure work, frame issues, and produce analyses that answer complex business questions in a pragmatic approach
Communicate complex analytical topics in a clean & simple way to multiple partners and senior leadership
Become a trusted advisor to key BI stakeholders to partner on solving complex business challenges and provide relevant data-driven insights
Who You Are:
2+ years experience and Bachelor's or Master's in Mathematics or Scientific degree; or equivalent related professional experience in a comparable data analytics role with relevant experience.
Understand the concepts and steps involved in working with real-world large data sets: from domain-specific problem understanding, data preparation, travel-related data processing, data integration, data structures for ML, data pipelining, data modeling, and algorithms; strong data science knowledge and skills
Industry experiences on leveraging Statistics and Data Science on real-world large data sets
Strong knowledge and experience in database technologies, including SQL, Hadoop, Teradata, AWS / Qubole
Knowledge of hands-on practice in Python or R
Hand-on experience visualizing data for impact in Tableau, Looker, or similar
Proven knowledge of ML techniques such as Operations Research, Bayesian methods, clustering, decision trees, random forests, NLP, etc., excellent grasp of statistical concepts and methods
Strong passions for solving problems and finding patterns and insights within structured and unstructured data
Are team oriented with a collaborative approach and attitude
Excellent written and oral communication skills; outstanding presentation and PowerPoint skills
Familiarity with Analytic tools and solutions in the cloud (AWS, Azure) is preferred
Background in payment technology and processes with an understanding of payment data analysis is strongly preferred
The total cash range for this position in Austin is $112,000.00 to $156,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $179,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
