Data is a key component of Expedia’s travel platform.  To unlock the full potential of Expedia’s data we are building capabilities that will enable consistent and trusted data exchange across the enterprise. Enterprise Data Management and Governance organization is looking for a Data Quality Engineer to help define and deliver data management capabilities that will bring this vision into reality.  

As the Data Quality Engineer you will be responsible for curating actionable metadata and publishing through an enterprise tool for the data community to benefit from. You will actively engage with data producers, data consumers, and engineers to curate or help them curate and/or leverage the metadata to help data producer teams deliver generic, scalable, consistent and trusted data solutions.  

You will have an opportunity to acquire vast knowledge of our data ecosystem by working together with diverse global teams, spanning technical functions, like data producers and consumers, to business functions, like marketing, finance, customer experience, and legal.

What you'll do:

• • Demonstrate knowledge of data structures to identify structural deficiencies or opportunities for enhanced delivery and report potential data quality issues.

  • Developing data quality metrics and standards for different types of data to ensure that it is high quality and error-free .

  • Confirming to data quality models to identify issues with the data and recommending solutions to improve the data quality.

  • Reviewing data quality protocols, procedures, and policies to ensure compliance with industry standards

  • ·Estimating the cost of implementing new data quality projects and managing existing projects.

  • Coordinate with the platform team to translate and determine technical requirements for the Data Quality Suite of applications. Conducting data quality audits to identify any issues with accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data within an organization’s databases .

  • Recommending data quality solutions that may include automating manual processes or developing a new application to handle the data more efficiently

  • ·Monitoring the quality of incoming data to identify any errors or inconsistencies that may need to be corrected

  • Drive root cause analysis and resolution of data issues including options for remediation and controls.

  • Coordinate with data engineers to determine progress against Data Quality Suite updates, provide technical feedback on tasks and assist testing updates to ensure they meet acceptance criteria.

  • ·Creating reports that detail the quality of data within an organization’s databases .

  Who you are: 

  • 3+ year experience in the data management space, specifically in Data Quality  

  • Background with understanding of batch data pipelines / jobs, real-time steaming apps running on Kafka

  • strong analytical skills with experience to in past of having created , maintained, and monitored data flows in Python, Spark, Hive, SQL and Presto for consistency, accuracy, and lag time

  • Knowledge about core data engineering platforms and best practices and processes at-scale.

  • Strategic perspective and ability to think through big-picture issues coupled with excellent execution to get things done in a fast-paced, environment 

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to convey sophisticated and abstract concepts to both technical and business teams. 

  • Influencing skills, including experience working within a large matrix organization 

  • Forensic mindset to investigate / provide transparency on data quality jobs

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience in a STEM degree
