What’s the role?

Etsy is seeking a software engineer to join the Inventory Personalization and Customization team! This web-focused team is part of the Buyer Experience Initiative, and is dedicated to developing features that improve clarity and interaction with listings which offer both personalizable and customizable options.

As a Software Engineer on our team, you will be responsible for:

• Building and maintaining software written in PHP and React/Typescript

• Close attention to detail, with the ability to translate design and product requirements to production-ready code

• Strong communication that adapts to technical and non-technical audiences

• Work closely with third-party APIs, such as Zendesk, to provide stellar support to our buyers

• Consistently and proactively breaking down large features into multiple stages for delivery

• Identifying and resolving difficult architectural and technical trade-offs

• Collaborate with teammates across various subject areas, including engineering, product management, product design, and data analytics

This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Collaborate across Product, Design, Analysts, Researchers, and Engineering to build innovative and delightful web experiences

• Build high-quality end to end product features in a fast paced agile environment

• Help to estimate timelines for strategic delivery of work

• Run A/B experiments to validate product improvements

• Communicate technical issues with all vital stakeholders. This includes quickly owning and addressing critical issues which your team owns, even if there is no clear individual owner

• Craft and improve processes that positively impact your team

• Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change occasionally at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• An interest in solving user problems and driving business impact through high-quality, maintainable, and readable code

• A minimum of 1 years of experience writing and deploying full-stack web software in any of the following languages: PHP, Python, Ruby, Java, Go, and/or JavaScript

• Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners (engineers, product managers, product designers, researchers, and analysts)

• A sense of self-direction, and ability to learn quickly

• A willingness to support your team’s success by helping those around you, and offering ideas and support when needed
