What's the role?

The Web Enablement initiative is looking for a software engineer to join our team to improve many of the core frameworks at Etsy, including our API, ORM, and code modularization frameworks, but with a primary focus on the foundation of the API that powers all of our internal and external endpoints.

In this role, you’ll be partnering with other members of the API and Core Frameworks team as well as numerous other groups within Etsy to ensure our tools and frameworks are easy and effective. We make tools that make the lives easier for nearly every other engineer at Etsy.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, Etsyweb Core Platform In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

What is the team like at Etsy?

• We’re a team of primarily backend developers, but willing to work on all parts of the stack

• We’re a relatively new team, but with a lot of tenure at Etsy

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Identify opportunities and drive projects to improve Etsy's PHP-based core application platform

• Engage with a diverse set of teams and stakeholders to ensure the team is building the right tools

• Write, test, instrument, and document any code necessary in support of our core frameworks

• Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• Exceptional modern PHP knowledge

• Experience developing complex, large-scale API frameworks with thousands of endpoints

• Proven track record of partnering across many teams to drive adoption of new technologies or practices

• Led and completed multiple large, successful projects within a team environment

It can also be helpful if you have:

• E-commerce application development experience

• Experience building APIs for use with both native mobile apps as well as mobile and desktop web

• Experience working in large monoliths
