What’s the role?
We are seeking an Engineering Manager to join our User Experience Foundation org! You will be working on a hybrid iOS & Android squad alongside other teams focused on Design Systems, Accessibility, and the core user experience of the Etsy apps.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Mexico City office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Candidates living within commutable distance of our Mexico City office or in Guadalajara may be the first to be considered. What’s this team like at Etsy?
This is a brand new team at Etsy that will be responsible for improving the Core App user experience. It sits within the UX Foundation initiative, an organization within our Enablement group  responsible for maintaining and evolving Etsy’s design system and accessibility standards.

Collage is Etsy’s design system, a set of building blocks, tools, and standards for creating accessible, on-brand experiences for Etsy’s marketplace. Our goal is that Collage enables product teams’ work and champions the holistic experience. Our systems are foundational to product development at Etsy, delivering on our “human connection” and “trusted brand” right to win. Our vision is that by 2026, Collage components are the foundation of all new feature development at Etsy and an evolved Collage library enables a cohesive end user experience that makes buying and selling intuitive in a marketplace that is unmistakably Etsy.

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Lead a team of 5 to 8 iOS and Android engineers, with the possibility of managing Web or API engineers. At Etsy, engineering managers have a limited role in the hands-on process of building software, but a very large role in orchestrating and coaching engineers to achieve results together.
• Collaborate across Product, Design, and Engineering to deliver high-quality user experiences, occasionally working with Research or Analytics to run A/B experiments and validate product improvements.
• Work with other leaders within engineering to develop and evolve engineering processes and best practices
• Prioritize, scope, plan, develop, and deliver projects at various completion stages or definitions when started.  Planning and delivery of your team’s roadmap
• Serve as a coach, mentor, and advocate for the engineers on your team.
• Participate in the end-to-end recruiting process, hiring, and onboarding exceptional engineering talent
• Foster a culture of learning, collaboration and thoughtful delivery on your teams

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• 1+ years of experience directly managing engineers - including providing leadership, mentorship, feedback, and investing in their career growth,
• You have experience with Native App Development (Swift and Objective-C on iOS or Kotlin and Java on Android) and have delivered Apps at scale
• Bonus points if you have experience in Design Systems, Accessibility, or redesigns/rearchitectures
• You are an excellent coach, mentor, and developer of engineers, having led both junior and experienced engineers and built a path of opportunities to grow your team seniority over time.
• You are highly collaborative, and enjoy working with other squads that are part of your organization
• You are a skilled communicator and leader who is able to adapt your style and level of detail to effectively deliver messages upwards, downwards, and broadly around the company.
• You value people who are curious, enthusiastic, generous, and responsible.
