Manager, Architecture Services

Job Summary:

The Architecture Services Manager leads enterprise architecture service delivery and ensures alignment between enterprise strategy, business objectives, and technology execution for a transportation and logistics technology organization. This manager-level role bridges software delivery teams, engineering, and platform organizations, fosters a culture of transparency around progress, risks, and dependencies, and actively removes obstacles so teams can maintain delivery velocity. The role requires a strong technical background in software delivery, proven people management skills, and deep experience operating in Agile environments, and is accountable for ensuring architecture initiatives deliver measurable business outcomes.

• Manage and maintain the architecture work intake process, prioritization, backlog and resource assignments.
• Coordinate and track progress for all architecture team initiatives and engagements, including timelines, milestones, deliverables, status, risks and inter-dependencies.
• Assist architects in the creation of detailed project plans and task lists for architecture team initiatives and engagements.
• Manage and communicate updates on status, risks, and outcomes of architecture initiatives.
• Manage architecture initiatives using Agile practices (Scrum and/or Kanban, with tools such as JIRA).
• Drive continuous improvement in architecture processes using Agile principles.
• Support weekly scrums, sprint planning, sprint reviews, sprint retrospectives, as well as product backlog tracking and refinement.
• Foster transparency across the IT organization related to architecture work, priorities, progress and outcomes.
• Bridge software delivery teams, engineering departments, and platform teams ensuring alignment on priorities, scope, collaboration, and shared outcomes related to architecture initiatives.
• Track the progress of Architecture Center of Improvement (COI) initiatives.
• Manage vendor agreements, financials and SOWs for external architecture resources or engagements.
• Manage vendor contracts, and financials related to architecture tools, technologies, and platforms.
• Provide oversight for FinOps consumption and usage related to cloud native tools and technologies in the architecture ecosystem.
• Provide people management for architecture resources, including coaching, goal setting, mentoring, constructive feedback and evaluation of individual performance.
• Mentor architects and technical leaders, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
• Manage the established feedback process for enterprise architects, including use of Personal Development Plans.
• Manage time-off requests, time reporting, and approvals for architecture resources.
• Provide input on resourcing, capacity planning, and workload management of enterprise architects.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent work experience required.
• Technical background in software delivery within cross functional, matrixed IT environments required.
• Strong people management skills, including coaching, mentoring, and team development required.
• Demonstrated experience with procurement and financial management required.
• Experience with Office 365 tool suite required.
• Proven expertise with Agile, Kanban, and/or Scrum, including hands-on experience using JIRA for workflow management and reporting required.
• Excellent communication, collaboration and organization skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization required.
• Excellent organization and critical thinking skills required.
• Occasional travel may be required based on business needs required.
• Experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, or operations-intensive industries preferred.
• Background working with distributed systems, integrations, APIs, SaaS and cloud native platforms preferred.
• Experience with reporting tools like Microsoft Power BI, Tableau or Looker preferred.

• Responds well to questions; Ability to read, interpret and comply with written information and documents such as safety rules, operations / procedure manuals and maintenance instructions with a high comprehension and concentration level to include the ability to meet deadlines
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and will be subject to a criminal history background check
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
