The Chief Data Office (CDO) is a fast growing team critical to the company’s objectives of transforming into a Data and Analytics organization. It plays a critical function in building and supporting best-in-class data assets. A strong data organization starts with a strong and flexible Data Architecture, robust Data Engineering and high quality Data Assets. Increasing both innovation and the trust Canadians have in Equifax are key priorities of the CDO.

The Data Engineer, leveraging Equifax’s Data Fabric platform, is responsible for implementing data pipelines that enable Equifax's transformation from a traditional credit reporting agency to a data and analytics powerhouse. Working closely with Technology, the Data Engineer will be responsible for building out flexible, automated end-to-end data pipelines for a broad range of data assets. To support the growth in our data assets and in close collaboration with the Data Acquisition team, the Data Engineer will work with the Data Architect and Data Scientists within the CDO to ensure that data pipelines have built in traceability and data quality. To support this robust data environment, this role will work closely with Data Governance, ensuring that there is clear yet nimble oversight, governance and processes to ensure the protection and consistency of our data assets.

What you’ll do

  • Understand the business vision and requirements and translate that into data systems and pipelines.

  • Implement new data structures to maximize the capabilities of our Cloud-native Data Fabric platform.

  • Collaborate closely with Data Acquisition to understand and support the overall data strategy and support through the development of strong data ingestion and integration plans.

  • Optimize the overall data flow by reducing redundancy and enabling accessibility within security boundaries.

  • Build robust, high quality, integrated data assets.

  • Drive data quality across related business areas.

  • Manage the delivery of high impact dashboards and data visualizations.

  • Participate in the development of strategies, standards, and best practices in the areas of data access and integration within Cloud.

  • Stay abreast of the rapidly developing Cloud technologies landscape and share knowledge with the team and others internally.

What experience you need

  • A strong understanding of data-driven, technology based product development with 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience designing and building analytical solutions to solve real world problems.

  • 2+ years experience integrated and automated data solutions and pipelines.

  • Strong knowledge of Cloud-based capabilities and platforms (Google Cloud is an asset).

  • Experience in analytics, software engineering or data management/architecture and experience in managing technical documentation.

  • Strong knowledge of Big Data platforms such as Hadoop and the associated tools needed for analytics and a good understanding of modern data architecture, data security, and design principles.

  • Strong understanding of agile methodologies including the creation of epics and user stories.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a matrix environment to deliver complete solutions is required.
