Applied AI Experimentation Intern, Finance Innovation Studio - 2026 Summer
Team: Finance Transformation
Location: Toronto
Commitment: Student
Workplace Type: hybrid
Role Overview
Are you a 3rd- or 4th-year engineering or technical student with advanced coding skills and strong financial acumen? Do you believe lines of code and AI tools like Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini - can fundamentally reshape how financial reporting, analysis, and insights are created? If so, the Finance Innovation Studio wants to hear from you.
The Finance Innovation Studio is an internal sandbox designed to test, learn, and accelerate how artificial intelligence and modern analytics can improve the way Finance work gets done.
The Applied AI Experimentation Intern will work in parallel with the existing Finance team, running structured experiments to explore whether AI‑first approaches can deliver the same outcomes across reports, analyses, insights more efficiently, more creatively, or with less manual effort. This role is intentionally designed to operate as a studio and sandbox, separate from established processes, with a mandate to experiment, document learnings, and surface scalable opportunities.
The key internship project milestones!
- Execute a series of AI experimentation sprints throughout the summer, each focused on a defined Finance or business output (e.g., management reports, financial analyses, performance narratives, decision support materials)
- Work from problem statements and target outcomes, without prior exposure to existing processes or templates, to independently explore alternative AI‑first approaches
- Leverage AI tools and platforms with a strong preference for Microsoft Copilot and tools within the enterprise ecosystem, including Power BI, Excel automation, and analytics capabilities
- Apply business and finance judgment to ensure outputs are relevant, decision‑useful, and aligned with how Finance leaders think about performance, risk, and trade‑offs
- Produce experimental outputs alongside concise documentation outlining:
-
- Tools and techniques used
- Time and effort required
- Key insights, limitations, and learnings
- Partner with Finance leaders and subject‑matter experts to review results and identify which experiments may be refined or operationalized
What this role is (and is not) !
-
This role is:
- 80% Coding and AI Exploration & 20% Finance related Innovation Exploration

- Additional execution capacity for existing finance processes
- A 100% technology or engineering coding intern role
- An owner of production Finance deliverables
This role is not:
Your ideal experience!

- Hands‑on familiarity with modern AI tools, including:
-
- Prompt‑based “vibe coding” and rapid experimentation
- AI copilots (preference for Microsoft Copilot)
- Data and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Excel, or similar)
- Comfortable speaking the language of business and finance (e.g., performance, drivers, trade‑offs, efficiency, outcomes), even if not formally trained as an accountant
- Strong interest in applying artificial intelligence to real business problems.
- High curiosity, comfort with ambiguity, and ability to learn tools independently
-
Ideal (but not required)!
- Prior exposure to Finance, analytics, consulting, or strategy contexts.
- Experience translating technical or analytical outputs into clear business insights.
What you’ll Gain!
- Experience applying AI in a real Finance and business decision‑making environment.
- Direct exposure to senior Finance leadership and strategic initiatives.
- Hands‑on work in an experimentation studio focused on learning velocity and practical impact.
