As a Backup Engineer, you will be focused on the administration of TSM and Cobalt Iron platforms, meeting and exceeding defined service levels in delivering backup and recovery services to our banking sector client. Your key responsibilities will include daily backup troubleshooting, responding to audit requirements and executing critical data restores. You will also be involved in lifecycling activities such as hardware and software refreshes to maintain the environment at target levels. migrating backups to TSM and Cobalt Iron, implementing backup infrastructure components, contributing ideas towards automating backup workflows, and serving as an escalation point on shift to other members of the team. Maintaining diligence around ITSM process and providing detailed documentation of operational procedures are paramount in this role.

Job Responsibilities:

• Provide exceptional backup services, prioritizing simplicity and enhancing the customer experience.
• Administer TSM and Cobalt Iron in a mixed environment of Unix, Linux and Windows servers.
• Build and deploy backup infrastructure, including managing backup repositories.
• Demonstrate exceptional troubleshooting skills for backup, tape, and storage issues.
• Proficiently manage and balance backup schedules and policies.
• Work independently and participate in on-call rotations as required.
• Possess in-depth knowledge of TSM and Cobalt Iron, both through command line and GUI interfaces.
• Troubleshoot backup issues on Unix, Linux and Windows servers, utilizing appropriate commands.
• Adhere to established company processes, including change management, incident management, and problem management.
• Utilize automation tools for efficient backup processes.

Skills/Abilities and Knowledge:

• Proficiency in Unix/Linux and Windows operating systems.
• Experience in scripting languages such as python and bash.
• Ability to develop operational reports.
• Knowledge of networking principles.
• Experience in managing large database backups and recovery

Education:

• Bachelor's degree from a four-year College or University; or 5 to 8 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Related Work Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in TSM administration.
• Preferred 2 years of experience in Cobalt Iron administration.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in backup and recovery operations.

Working Conditions:

• Office environment.
• Travel as required.
