Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$150,000 - $220,000

Position Responsibilities:

The Lilly Neuroscience Communications Sr. Director will be responsible for driving the internal and external communications strategy and implementation for the neurodegenerative, pain and genetic medicine portfolio/pipeline. You will be responsible for the development and execution of global communications strategies for associated key products and programs. The job has four primary areas of focus:

1. delivering strategic external communications for the neuroscience pipeline and portfolio – including scientific data, regulatory achievements, and disease state education campaigns

2. integrated communications strategies across environment shaping activities, social media, and other corporate affairs activities

3. proactively executive visibility strategy for NBU leadership

4. protecting our brand and products through agile issues management.

The position will report the Vice President, NBU Corporate Affairs and will be part of the Lilly Neuroscience Business Unit Corporate Affairs team, operating cross-functionally within the NBU, as well as with other Communications and Corporate Affairs colleagues, Investor Relations, and affiliates.

Specifically, this person will:

  • Partner with neuroscience cross-functional teams (commercial, marketing, medical, publications, regulatory, legal, etc.) and other key partners to develop strategies and implement communication tactics that influence external audiences (customers, key environmental influencers, advocates, media and caregivers/consumers) and advance business objectives via communications, social and digital media efforts, and earned/owned/paid media strategy and execution.
  • Collaborate with fellow Corporate Affairs teammates including advocacy, environment shaping & policy to build cohesive corporate affairs solutions/plans for collaborators.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to favorably show Lilly and its products in the external environment. Seek creative opportunities to position Lilly’s growing presence in neuroscience.
  • Create and implement executive visibility strategy. Provide direct communications support and counsel to the President of Lilly Neuroscience, including executive speech writing support.
  • Lead NBU Associate Directors
  • Lead day-to-day public relations activities of assigned portfolio, including direction of a PR agency of record, interaction with media and other key external collaborators.
  • Lead all aspects of development of strategy and materials for communications for news media and social media.
  • Support product/program related employee engagement strategies and execution.
  • Partner with communications contacts in our global affiliates
  • Assist with other communications projects as assigned.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field, including healthcare or science.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a professional communications position (journalist or corporate communicator) or related field.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Experience with communications and/or related work experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech or other healthcare related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and execution of creative and essential communication plans.
  • Demonstration expertise working cross-functionally.
  • Outstanding writing skills and ability to translate complex messages, data and scientific content into clear, concise, compelling communications for laypeople, HCP and consumer audiences.
  • Understanding of traditional and social media landscapes and how to use various channels to improve impact.
  • Strong understanding of media relations and experience serving as a spokesperson.
  • Extreme learning agility and multi-tasking capabilities. Be proficient in balancing many projects at once in a fast-paced environment with very tight deadlines. Be able to work well under stress.
  • Ability to understand the business need and use communication to drive the business forward.
  • Strong problem-solving and relationship building skills.
  • Strong strategic problem solver with experience in project management.
  • Ability to prioritize and make good trade-off decisions.
  • Experience interacting with and providing appropriate communications counsel and support to senior leaders. Able to influence others; comfortable and confident in speaking up to ensure best possible narratives and business impact.
  • Meticulous and exacting attention to detail.
