Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$118,500 - $173,800

The facility is a greenfield, state of the art Parenteral, Device Assembly, and Packaging Facility located at the Research Triangle Park (RTP) in North Carolina.  This is an exciting opportunity to help operate and expand a state-of-the-art manufacturing site.

The Associate Director – Maintenance and Reliability Engineering is responsible for the leadership, capability building, training, staffing, strategy and governance of the maintenance teams and programs to support highly automated Parenteral, Device Assembly, Packaging, and Logistics operations.  This includes leadership of a tiered maintenance organization (leader of leaders) supporting corrective and preventative maintenance activities for existing assets, and development and implementation of maintenance strategies to support novel technology in place across the site and site expansion including oversight for maintenance related investigations and changes.  The Associate Director - Maintenance & Reliability Engineering is also responsible for the site Calibrations team and program as well as the MRO/Spare Parts program. The Associate Director - Maintenance & Reliability Engineering is expected to lead by example and provide coaching to others in the areas of safety, quality, engineering, maintenance, reliability and continuous improvement. 

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

  • Develop a capable maintenance organization based in engineering first principles and able to support 24/7 operation.
  • Establish a vision for a maintenance organization to support a state of the art parenteral, device assembly, and packaging facility - communicate the vision to the team.
  • Maintain metrics to measure performance against business objectives and make necessary changes to improve performance.
  • Set performance expectations for technicians across levels as a leader of leaders; drive accountability to said performance expectations.
  • Interact with Regulatory Agencies during site inspections.
  • Drive safety culture and Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) compliance in daily work, including programmatic ownership of lockout tagout (LOTO) and qualified electrical worker programs.
  • Provide technical guidance to the RTP maintenance group.
  • Manage external contracts, resources as well as internal technical and project management resources, as needed.
  • Meet the Maintenance financial objectives through planning, directing, controlling, implementing, evaluating, monitoring, and forecasting as needed to achieve expense budgets and capital plan targets.
  • Ensure the maintenance functions are performed in timely, proactive, compliant, and cost-effective manner, while achieving departmental and customer objectives

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Relevant experience in Maintenance (Parenteral, Device Assembly or Packaging) and Engineering
  • Assignments in Maintenance management, Reliability or Manufacturing operations
  • At least 7 years in Engineering and or Maintenance experience.
  • Previous management or leadership experience including leading or working effectively with a cross functional group.
  • Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (SAP/MAXIMO) experience

Additional Preferences:

  • Relevant experience operating in an FDA regulated environment
  • Solid understanding of basic requirements of regulatory agencies such as the FDA, EMEA, DEKRA, and OSHA.
  • Previous experience in Maintenance and or Engineering
  • Previous experience with deviation and change management systems including Trackwise.
  • Instrument calibration process knowledge/experience
  • Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) exposure/knowledge/experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to train and mentor others

Other Information:

  • Ability to work 8 hour days – Monday through Friday; with on-call support for 24/7 operations
  • Ability to travel up < 10%
