Location: This position will work a hybrid model (remote and in office 1 - 2 days per week). Ideal candidates will live or be willing to relocate to within 50 miles of our Pulse Point locations in Wilmington, DE, Atlanta, GA, Mason, OH, Indianapolis, IN or Norfolk, VA.
The Senior Research Programmer/Analyst (Business Information Developer Consultant Senior) is viewed as an expert in the development and execution of data mining analyses and is responsible for Carelon Research’s projects ranging from traditional claims-based retrospective analyses to large-scale, prospective studies in the areas of Health Outcomes, Pharmacoeconomics, comparative effectiveness, Epidemiologic and Drug Safety research.
How you will make an impact:
Undertakes complex assignments requiring additional specialized technical knowledge.
Develops very complex and varied strategic report applications from a Data Warehouse.
Establishes and communicates common goals and direction for team.
Establishes and maintains advanced knowledge of data warehouse database design, data definitions, system capabilities, and data integrity issues.
Acts as a source of direction, training, and guidance for less experienced staff.
Monitors project schedules and costs for own and other projects.
Develops and supports very complex Data Warehouse-related applications for business areas requiring design and implementation of database tables.
Conducts training on use of applications developed.
Focuses on spending time thinking about programming and how it would be used to design solutions.
Prepares, verifies, and manages research data sets from administrative health insurance claims databases as per provided specifications.
Performs ad-hoc queries and provides customized reports based on longitudinal patient databases according to internal and external requests.
Works with research staff to develop the business logic needed to answer specific research questions.
Conducts programming and data quality checks.
Participates in complete project lifecycle by managing requirements gathering, programming, testing/troubleshooting, quality assurance, and creation of final deliverables.
Minimum Requirements:
Requires a BS/BA degree; minimum of 6 years of experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:
Expert level PC, spreadsheet, and database skills strongly preferred.
Experience in standard Business Information tools and programming/query languages strongly preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively with multiple levels within the organization strongly preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency in either Teradata, MS SQL, R, OR SAS strongly preferred.
Experience with SQL skills include Transact-SQL language and experience using MS SQL Server strongly preferred.
Experience with SAS skills include Proc SQL and Base SAS data step programming strongly preferred.
Strong data management skills to handle large volumes of health plan administrative claims data strongly preferred.
Strong written and oral communication skills preferred.
Highly developed reasoning and problem-solving skills preferred.
Self-motivated, with ability to meet deadlines preferred.
Ability to plan, organize, and work on multiple tasks simultaneously and in multidisciplinary teams preferred.
Experience with administrative health insurance claims data preferred.
