Job Description

At eBay, we're more than a global ecommerce leader — we’re changing the way the world shops and sells. Our platform empowers millions of buyers and sellers in more than 190 markets around the world. Join a team of passionate thinkers, innovators, and dreamers — and help us connect people and build communities to create economic opportunity for all.

About the Team

The Access Management team is a strategic function within the Global Customer Experience (GCX) organization. We deliver secure, compliant, and scalable access solutions across enterprise systems by eliminating manual access-management work and replacing it with reliable, auditable automation.
Our charter includes building and operating a centralized Secure Access platform and governance framework that integrates with multiple enterprise systems while meeting strict compliance and audit requirements, while exploring AI-driven approaches to further reduce operational toil and risk.

What You Will Do

Automation, Technical & AI Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain automation services, internal web applications, and microservices to replace manual access-management tasks, including audits, recertifications, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Develop backend services and integrations using Java, Node.js, and JavaScript to orchestrate access lifecycle events and compliance workflows.
  • Build and maintain RESTful APIs and event-driven services that integrate enterprise platforms (NICE, eWFM, Siebel, Genesys) with centralized Secure Access systems.
  • Implement rule-based access logic (RBAC, dormancy rules, role ownership, approval paths) in code rather than spreadsheets or ad-hoc processes and explore AI-assisted decisioning for anomaly detection and risk flagging.
  • Automate recurring processes such as:
    • Piggyback (PB) audits and dormancy checks
    • Role owner and entitlement recertifications
    • SOX access reconciliations and evidence generation
  • Leverage AI/ML techniques to identify access anomalies, usage patterns, and optimization opportunities across large user populations.
  • Develop lightweight internal user interfaces using JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React) to support access reviews, reporting, and AI-driven insights.
  • Create automated reporting pipelines that generate audit-ready evidence with timestamps, approvals, traceability, and intelligent summarization.
  • Write automated tests and maintain clear technical documentation covering service architecture, data flows, control logic, and AI-enabled components.
  • Collaborate with platform, InfoSec, compliance, and data teams to translate policy and risk requirements into code - and AI-driven controls.
  • Automating additional access controls such as information checks, access creation audits, quality control (QC), dormancy audits, and access governance for future platform transitions (Siebel)

Business, Compliance & Governance Support

  • Ensure all automation and AI-enabled capabilities align with eBay security, compliance, and engineering standards.
  • Support audits by explaining system behavior, control logic, and evidence produced by automated and AI-assisted workflows.
  • Contribute to the evolution of a scalable Access Control Governance Program driven by technology and intelligent automation rather than manual enforcement.
  • Improve system stability and automation reliability through taxonomy simplification, reduction of role sprawl, and data-driven insights.

What We Are Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience as a Software Engineer, Automation Engineer, or IAM-focused Systems Engineer.
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • Java (services, APIs, batch jobs)
    • JavaScript/Node.js (automation services, workflow orchestration)
    • React or similar frontend frameworks
    • RESTful API design and system integrations
  • Solid understanding of HTML, CSS3, and modern web application development.
  • Experience writing automated tests and supporting production-grade services.
  • Working knowledge of RDBMS and NoSQL data stores.
  • Solid understanding of:
    • Identity and Access Management (IAM)
    • Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)
    • Joiner/Mover/Leaver (JML) lifecycle concepts
  • Exposure to AI/ML concepts, data analysis, or the use of AI services to enhance automation and decision-making.
  • Ability to work across engineering, compliance, and business teams and translate requirements into working code.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience applying AI/ML techniques (e.g., anomaly detection, classification, pattern recognition) to operational or security-related problems.
  • Familiarity with AI platforms, APIs, or frameworks used for building intelligent automation.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript and experience with frameworks such as Express.js.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and common design patterns.
  • Experience with authentication and authorization standards such as OAuth, SAML, JWT, and related protocols.
  • Experience integrating with SOAP and/or GraphQL APIs.
  • Experience working in SOX, audit, or regulated environments.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, logging, monitoring, and operational support.
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, and service management platforms.
  • Exposure to additional languages such as Python, C# is a plus.

Why Join Us?

  • Play a relevant role in developing a secure and scalable access management framework.
  • Partner with teams across compliance, InfoSec, and engineering to build access governance.
  • Collaborate within a group dedicated to automation, security, and business enablement at scale.
