About The Team And The Role

eBay's Search Services team is poised for transformative growth, and we are seeking a strategic and forward-thinking Senior Engineering Manager to guide our world-class engineering talent. In this pivotal role, you will define and implement strategic roadmaps, driving the delivery of innovative features that directly impact eBay's core business. The Search Services team is at the forefront of revolutionizing the eBay search experience, powering a suite of high-performance services that ensure fast, accurate, and efficient search results. What you will accomplish:

• Provide leadership and direction on technology to the team.

• Collaborate with product management and other partner teams to align engineering effort with product vision and business goals.

• Ensure consistent delivery while maintaining strong alignment with multi-functional teams.

• Communicate clearly and optimally with partners at all levels.

• Technical Expertise & Problem Solving:

• Provide technical guidance and support to the team.

• Identify and solve sophisticated technical challenges, ensuring the delivery of high quality solutions.

What you will bring:

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of working in high scalability, availability distributed systems.

• 5+ years of experience in a management role, leading engineering teams through engineering excellence and periods of transformation.

• Proven ability to lead high-performing teams in dynamic environments.

• Demonstrated ability to drive critical initiatives and deliver measurable results.

• Strong iterative development attitude, with a sense of urgency, ownership and accountability for the project success.

• Excellent communication, leadership, and change management skills.

• Experience in improving quality through engineering standard processes

• Comfortable collaborating with product management, engineering partners and business partners.

• Strong knowledge of building large scale Web Services/ APIs (GraphQL/ gRPC/ REST)

• Experience in scalable distributed technologies, SQL, No-SQL databases and streaming technologies such as Kafka

• Proven experience building large-scale Search applications or similar experience is a plus

• Masters degree in computer science or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York is expected in the range below.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
