The hourly rate for this position is $34.62+ per hour.

Job Summary
Eaton’s Research Labs (ERL) has an exciting Engineering Intern position in the Power Electronics group to support research and technology development in emerging technology programs. In this role, the individual will be responsible for researching and developing advanced potting materials/mixtures for power conversion applications. Materials specialization in potting materials, fillers, nanoparticles/microparticles for thermal dissipation and dielectric applications is a plus. The individual is expected to have a broad working knowledge in power conversion topics such as AC-DC, DC-DC conversion, Semiconductors, Magnetics and Power Electronics Integration/Packaging. You will work cross functionally across other materials teams, mechanical and electrical engineer within ERL and other Business Units to brainstorm and develop compelling ideas and technologies on material formulation and processing to support thermal management and electrical insulation for MV power conversion system packaging and cooling design. The individual is also expected to contribute to technical presentations, journal articles, white papers as well as IP generation within this role. This position is in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.
Job Responsibilities
- As a technical intern, work with electrical and mechanical engineers on the power conversion system designs, support emerging power conversion & power system solutions based on breakthrough cooling technologies for industrial, automotive, truck, and aerospace power conversion applications.
- Participate in technology projects by supporting teams (local and remote resources) and working with external technology resources (Business Units, Universities and Customers).
- Ability to identify, analyze, develop and validate advanced materials in the field of cooling of Power Conversion and Power Electronics is necessary. Communicate complicated technologies in a clear and concise way to a variety of different audiences. A good blend of technical knowledge and is required to be successful in this position.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural globally distributed teams, support specific task within the scope of work and provide updates to project manager.
- Support project plans and deliver results on budget and schedule.
- Support projects with partners from national labs, universities, and other research institutes.
Qualifications:
Education level required
- Graduate student (prefer PhD student) in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering
- Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher
Years and area of experience required
- 1 year of experience
Technical knowledge
- Materials of Science degree in materials engineering or related discipline
- Demonstrable knowledge in parts, materials and process selection, manufacturing support, and qualification of electronic thermal and electrical insualtion materials
- Fundamentals in thermal, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, electrical insulation applicable to power electronics, electromagnetics, power conversion, including creating specifications, designing technical solution concepts, and building and testing prototypes to validate models/hypotheses and documenting results.
- Mechanical, thermal, and environmental reliability testing of electronic systems and components
- Experience in potting materials, material property measurement, material formulation, processing is a plus
- Appreciation for the trade-offs necessary to achieve designs that meet performance requirements and cost objective solutions.
- 3D CAD modeling software knowledge (Creo, Inventor, Soldworks), FEA/CFD knowledge
Skills:
- Good English communication and presentation skills (oral and written)
- Experience presenting value proposition of new technologies
